“I do!” Nick clenched his jaw, immediately regretting those two words. Oh, shit. Shit shit shit.
The thing was, Nick didn't have a boyfriend, only an older brother who was really good at getting under his skin. And now he'd not only lied about having a boyfriend in the first place, but then he'd gone and said:
"Charlie," Fuck. "It's...it's Charlie."
Or: Nick gets caught up in a little white lie, and now he's in Menorca with his family and his best friend Charlie Spring, who is going to pretend to be his boyfriend for two weeks. As long as they stuck to their plan, they could pull this off and convince David that they were actually going out; Nick just has to make sure that his very real crush on Charlie doesn't ruin things. What could go wrong?

Their feet moved in rhythm with the earth’s breathing and the lake’s leaps. The coldness of Charlie’s body seeped through Nick’s thin clothing but he still held tight, basking in what he now knew to be the last embrace he would share with the boy. His heart’s beating did not change patterns as it broke, thumb playing with the ring while Charlie’s body wreaked with quiet sobs. No hug would have ever been tight enough to hold him together, but the grip they had on each other’s clothes translated the desire to try.
“Can a heart still break once it’s stopped beating?” Charlie whispered so his voice would not break, muffled as it was in Nick’s dirty shirt.
“If it breaks, it loves; and if it loves, it is alive.”
