Elon loved him. Jeff had signed the deal expecting to obtain more and more power and increase his own status.
The problem (for no action of such grandiose scale comes without its consequences) was that with each passing day he found himself more charmed by Elon's nonchalant attitude and his perpetually grinning, perfect teeth. His manly musk (ha! get it?) reminded him of the time he had burned through the atmosphere.
