Summary
Dustin doesn’t seem to notice Steve’s trouble breathing, just whines, “Just move your date this one time, come on.”
His inner alpha is back to panting. He likes the idea of moving the date that doesn’t actually exist, just quietly mumbles something along the lines of Eddie and alpha and mate into Steve’s ear. Steve pretends it’s tinnitus and a high pitched ring actually drowns out his inner alpha. Apparently, those concussions were good for something after all.
“What, to hang out with you and Eddie the freak Munson? Yeah, I’ll pass.”
or: Eddie and Steve have been dating for a while now but no one can know since they are both alphas. The secret has unforeseen consequences for Steve's health

Summary
Steve has never won a fight. He’s had his ass kicked left, right, and center. Hell, Johnathan has kicked his ass. Steve can bat a monster, but when it comes to people? Steve Harrington has never really won a fight.
But that’s because he’s getting put in the wrong kinds of fights. They think he’s a hammer, when really, anyone who grew up BFFs with Carol becomes a scalpel.
(Dustin gapes like a fish. “Holy shit, dude…” Steve would chide language if he thought it would do anything. “You just performed real life Vicious Mockery. I think that guy took psychic damage!”)
~~~
Or: someone thinks he’s tough shit and is messing with Steve’s kids. Cue the Boss Battle Music. Mama Steve rips the guy to shreds using just his words and a sassily-cocked hip.
Summary
Men like him didn’t deserve grief. He didn’t even know the word until he was older, and he knew less what it meant. But it made sense when the word found his ears as he lingered in the doorway of the shitty dilapidated house that he had grown to accept. He only ever found it within himself to fight back when Eddie was gone. He only yelled when it mattered to Eddie, only cried when he anticipated the breakage of Eddie’s heart. He’d never had the energy to fight until he was this disaster of a human, and that fight in him was rage, and that rage was grief.
Summary
It's a Tuesday when it happens. He's sitting anxiously at lunch, eating his hot pockets and silently dreading the math quiz coming next period. Trying really extra hard to keep the slipping shards of his sanity in his grasping fingers, when Dustin says Harrington's name just one too many times and he snaps.
"What the fuck," he says vehemently and suddenly, slapping his palms on the tabletop, "Is up with you and Steve Harrington?"
"What do you mean?" Dustin asks, his head tilted to the side like a little kid.
"You're always fucking talking about him!"
"Yeah," says Dustin, his face carefully blank, but still a little bitchy, "Because he's my friend. You know about those? About friends?."
And the thing is, Eddie can tell that he's said something wrong here, somewhere, but he's too busy wrestling down his bitterness to properly understand what it is.
"But Harrington's a judgmental Douchbag!"
"That's funny," replies Dustin snippily, "Cause it looks a lot like only one of you is talking shit, and it's not Steve."
Or
Eddie is really tired of hearing about Steve Harrington. Right up until he isn't.
