She looked up, seeing a doctor run inside, and behind them, she caught sight of a panicked looking Alex. She tried to force a smile onto her face, hoping to reassure him, but then again he wasn’t in here. If he was really worried about her, he would be in here with her, surely? Or had he found her note? The one where she gave back his mother’s wedding ring. Why would he want to come in to visit her after the things she’d shouted at him in his office? He must just be here on official police business. He was the Sheriff after all. Tears welled in her eyes and she averted her gaze, missing the way his face crumpled and a tear fell down his cheek.
