Summary
Balinor, summoned by Uther to negotiate with the Great Dragon Kilgharrah, witnesses the devastating aftermath of the Great Purge of Magic and is forced to escape Camelot, leaving behind a pregnant Hunith.
Years later, his son Merlin, who struggles to conceal his magic, becomes fast friends with Prince Arthur. Their bond is tested when Arthur learns the truth about Merlin’s magic, but his loyalty to Merlin remains steadfast, though their relationship is marred by the weight of secrets and struggles for the safety of magic users in Camelot.
"Arthur..." Merlin whispered, heart twisting with a mixture of relief and dread. Even as the world crumbled around them, his friend's safety was his first concern; his keen eyes scanned for any sign of injury on the prince's body.
"Merlin?" Arthur's voice cut through the stillness, sharp with disbelief. But Merlin could only offer him a rueful smile, the kind that said, 'We'll laugh about this later... if there is a later.'
"Nice of you to join the party," Merlin joked weakly, trying to mask the gravity of the situation. "Fashionably late as always, you clotpole."

Fortune favours the D. So much so that they can influence reality and probability if they try hard enough.
It is only the Monkey D family that can make reality give up entirely on explaining how geneology works, and just concede to their claims to spare everyone the misery.

God Valley Divergence, MANGA SPOILERS.
Shamrock's role within the Freedom Fighters was acting as something of a secretary for his dad, taking notes, keeping track of their schedule, that sort of thing. But because they went up against the government, his dad was always scared that someone would discover the link between them and target Shamrock to try and make his dad give up on his goals. Already, the local armies of the countries they led protests in sometimes shot at them.
Or: What if Dragon managed to save Shamrock at God Valley?

Summary
The thing about living in a place like Camelot was that almost all of the people there lived lives completely devoid of magic. When Merlin was actually channelling his power in a place so empty of it, every tiny bit of magic around came alive to him. So when Dragoon touched the prone body of Uther Pendragon, he pulled away almost immediately.
Because there was already magic at work upon the King of Camelot.
