    Summary

“Is there something on your mind, Frodo?” he asked, patiently waiting as the boy seemed to pause as though thinking.

“Uncle…” he began, only to trail off. He then huffed and pulled away slightly until he was looking right up at Bilbo. “You’re not happy here, Uncle,” he stated bluntly, “you don’t like the Shire. You miss the Lonely Mountain.”

    “I am happy, Frodo-”

“Don’t lie! You always lie about it, Uncle,” Frodo told him, “I want you to be happy. I want to see you smile again, like you did for me.”
    ---
Bilbo returned to the Shire to take care of his young nephew Frodo after Frodo's parents died. He left behind the one he loved and the family he cared for dearly, but a promise is a promise and a Baggins keeps their promises. Thankfully, Frodo loves his uncle just as much as he loves adventures, so if convincing Uncle Bilbo to take him to Erebor means that his uncle will smile again, that's a win-win situation for him!

    Summary

“–Come Durin’s Day, the Mountain will host great entertainments, games, and feasting in your name and in the names of the other thirteen of the Company. Your path through all of Arda shall be made smooth to ensure your welcome in our lands, Bilbo Baggins. I bring this summons as it was sent from the Throne of Thorin, King Under the Mountain.”

Bilbo’s heart, racing as it had been from this thrilling invitation, seemed to trip over itself at the name. “Thorin?” he whispered, and he stepped forward without thinking.

Or: Bilbo learns that his story isn’t actually a tragedy, and that happy endings still take a bit of luck.

    Summary

Of all the things Bilbo was warned about that night the Company barged into his home—a hard journey east, the promise that there was no promise of him returning, the threat of a dragon, of fire, of incineration—war was not one of them.

And truthfully, he’d rather face Smaug all over again, talk his riddles and spin his flattery as he danced around scythe-hooked claws and bellows of dragon breath, than suit up for battle.

War is no place for a hobbit.

    Summary

Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit. Just as grass is green, the sky is blue, and the Lonely Mountain is tall, Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit through and through, and no one would know this better than himself. Yet strangely, while underneath the dwarf whom he calls king, he’s never been more acutely aware of just how much of a hobbit he is.

    Summary

The Thing, though. The boy-shaped Thing.

The Thing is not a metal almost-person, not like Spring is used to. But it is most certainly not a human, either. It's unsettling to look at, somewhere between a corpse long-dead and a carapace long-shed, and it doesn't act like anything living or almost-living Spring has ever met. Most infuriating of all is that the Lady seems to like the Thing, despite how unnatural it is! She welcomes it into Spring’s hotel like a guest and talks to it like a person.

The nerve of it all. The betrayal.

Spring's hotel has an intruder. It's not quite human, but maybe it's trying to learn how to be one. Spring POV of P from the start of the game until after the King of Puppets fight.
