    Taking a bracing breath, Jason raised his hand to knock on the front door. And hesitated. Why was he here? Well, he knew why, it’d been churning for weeks in his brain like it was a damn ice cream machine. But why—ah, to hell with it. He knocked loudly.

     

    Shuffling bled through the door, a muffled “one moment!”, followed by more noise before Dick opened the door with a very polite, “Can I help you?” The chain was still latched and the acrobat was clutching a floor-length bathrobe around himself like he was a scandalized housewife.

     

    Jason threw up lackluster jazz hands. “Surprise!"

    Dick always said his siblings were welcome anytime. Jason decides to see if that's true.

    “What’s up with you, sweet cheeks?”

    From where he sat on the Kent’s deep leather couch, Dick could hear Jon and Damian yelling from outside, fighting, playing, and laughing. Over the sound of rustling, dried corn stalks of the fields outside of the farmhouse, the autumn wind, and the simmering of a pot on the stove, he heard everything the boys had done— all of their little arguments, all of their inside jokes. Dick was great at listening and noticing and reading, and he had been able to read his little brother and his best friend since Dick and Damian got here. Jon and Damian were having so much fun.

    Martha Kent stepped in front of him, her arms crossed over her chest with a distinctly I’m expecting an answer kind of look on her face.

    Dick smiled, abashedly, and looked up at her. “Sorry. Nothing’s up. Just listening, is all.”
    Or:
    Dick Grayson is injured, and needs to sit out a battle at Ma Kent's house.

    Dick hums, smile idling. “I wanted to see you.”

    Dick picks Damian up from school, and they pass by a murder on the way home. Surprisingly, this isn't the most stressful part of their commute.
