The moment the stream cuts, Mira begins to cackle. “What- what was that?” She asks between gasping breaths, calming long enough to pitch her voice into a mocking rendition of Zoey’s own as she dramatically swoons backwards into her chair. “‘Night, Rumi.’ Shit, hon, you’re down bad and you haven’t even met the girl.”
“Ughhh, don’t even start, Mira,” Zoey whines, hiding her face in her arms. “I saw you staring at the chat too. Do you think we’ll ever meet her?”
Mira shrugs, tugging off her headset and tossing it on top of her desk. “Maybe,” she murmurs, a thoughtful look on her face, almost longing—Zoey wonders if she has that same look on her own face right now. “Hey, come to bed, it’s getting late and we have class tomorrow.” A pause. “Or, today, I guess.”
