The figure places Stede gently down on the cobblestone floor and whistles. “You really aren’t having a good day are you? I better let them in.”
Stede pants, the cold sweat running into his eyes. He’s got the word on the tip of his tongue--It’s right bloody there - “But the--the Kra-- Kra-Argh!!--Blackbeard's out there!”
“No mate, I’m Blackbeard.” Edward stands and moves the deadbolt.
“Kraken! The Kraken is out there! That’s it! Kraken!--waitwhat?”
Above him, Edward’s form begins to turn at the edges like an ink stain on paper. His arms split and twist backwards until they’re covered in black welts and suckers - swelling and growing exponentially in size.
“Oh yeah,” he says, perfectly calmly as the lanterns and men outside scatter. “That too.”

Ed goes still and a bit cross-eyed, staring down at the hand on his mouth. Stede moves it away, with a mouthed “sorry!” focusing intently on the sounds outside the shed instead.
In the alley, hurried steps and shouting voices rush past; they catch fragments of: “Where the fuck did they go then?” or “Keep looking!” and even “The short one looks like a bloody birthday cake, how do you lose that—”
