Kolem nich prošli dva chlapi stavěni jak medvědi a Jesper do nich málem narazil. Jeden z nich něco zafuněl, probodl pistolníka ostrým pohledem a Jesper by mohl přísahat, že se mu v ten moment zastavilo srdce. Jsou to vymahači? Poznávají ho? Snažil se si držet seznam komu dluží kolik peněz, ale co když mu něco uniklo? Bleskově mu v hlavě proběhly všechny jeho dluhy a snažil se vzpomenout, jestli dneska po něm někdo chtěl splátku–
A pak byl ten moment pryč, chlapi šli dál, pravděpodobně ani nebyli od Lítých šelem, Falešných hráčů nebo kohokoliv dalšího. Jesper vydechl– ani si neuvědomil, že nedýchal.

Zatímco Jesper nakupuje s Wylanem zásoby na cestu do Fjerdy, narazí na lidi, které fakt nechtěl dneska potkat.
