"Ragel was the name God gave him, the name other angels used to call him.
He never asked himself why, because it was not in their nature to do so. They obeyed orders blindly, and that included his name, of course.
Ragel was one of the few angels allowed to guard the Earth and inspect humans since its creation. Not that it was a decision, either, of course, or a benefit to those who had to do the clerical work up there... But it was an order that was carried out with as much enthusiasm as possible.
Humans were so weak, fickle, and unstable... very unstable. But Ragel and his brothers could do little to protect them from themselves.
For no apparent reason, however, every few centuries, Ragel would find himself "attached" to exceptional humans..."or John is an ancient angel.
