Summary
"Did you miss me?" she teases, kneeling on the edge of the pile instead of collapsing like normal. He raises an eyebrow at her. The corner of his mouth looks like he’s been gnawing on it, the way he usually does when he tries to focus on reading. "I have something for you."
"Oh, goodie," he says dryly, but he tilts his head to the shoulder closest to her and smiles anyway. "What is it, Madame President?"
She passes him the package. It looks really dreadful, and Oisin had told her as much. She didn’t care what Oisin thought at the moment. Now, though, she wishes she’d taken him up on the offer to call Ivy and have her wrap it with a nice Moonar Yulenear bow.
"Did I miss a birthday?"
"Take it."
He snatches it from her playfully. "No."

“Well, I can’t stand yours!” Wylan snaps, lying through his teeth.
The good thing of being roommates with your ex, Wylan thinks, is that he doesn’t have to tearfully hold onto Jesper’s sweatshirts and hope that the scent still remains. He can just go into the laundry room and sniff Jesper’s fabric softener like a completely well-adjusted, reasonable and mature adult.
-
or, Jesper and Wylan break up, still live together, miscommunicate and then communicate. And learn about some flowers.

Summary
Gorgug pictures his parents crying at his funeral. The metal flower they would bury him with. Their families, smug eyes and I told you so on their lips. Kristen, a cautionary tale of why those in Helio’s light shouldn't reach for those who aren't.
It's remembering Kristen that always makes him stumble in his melancholy. If he wasn't brought back, he can manage. But if Kristen were trapped in a place where bad things happened to good people and loving fathers turn their backs on their sons and Chosen Ones are random… The thought fills him with adrenaline, staring up at the empty night sky, listening to his friends’ quiet breathing.
Kristen didn't deserve to die. And if that's true, then Gorgug didn't deserve to die either.

Summary
Bucky does not waver, will not doubt. In his dreams, his hair falls to his shoulders, braided like a woman’s, and he feels his breath come more deeply than anything he takes while waking.
Helio’s light is that which bleaches the fields, which burns the unholy, which demands he stand as upright and exemplary as any paladin, that he not doubt. No matter that he has lied to his parents. No matter that Kristen was — nice to him, almost, even if her words were riddled with sin, even if she delighted in profanity, even if the twilight that suffused her was so cool it almost felt like relief. Even if she looked at Bucky like he was still just a kid, not almost the man of the house, not the eldest child now that — well. — like he was still growing, becoming, changing. No. Helio demanded that he stand tall, now, unwavering. Like one more corn stalk in that empty, holy field.
Bucky Applebees, on doubt, which is hope, which is freedom.
