Summary
“Buck? What’s going on?” Panic weaves into Eddie’s tone and Buck’s heart breaks at being the one to do this to him.
“Ed-Eddie. I-It’s Bobby. He-something hap-“ He can’t even finish his sentence as his voice cracks into a sob that he tries to cover with his mouth.
“Buck. Buck, listen to me. T-talk to me.” Eddie’s voice stutters and Buck can practically imagine his mouth tightening and curling in on itself, like his body refuses to let him cry. He can picture Eddie so well that it makes him wish desperately that he was here. That he wasn’t sobbing hysterically by himself in a sprawling complex of pressurized air and deadly pathogens.
“We-we were called to a-a lab. A level four. There was a f-fire.”

Summary
“Excuse me, I’m looking for a patient brought in not long ago, Evan Buckley?”
The hospital waiting chairs are uncomfortable, maybe subliminal messaging for people who don’t need urgent care that they should really be getting care elsewhere rather than taking up the emergency staff’s time - hell even Buck feels like he should be bolting of here - the cuts on his arm weren’t deep, but combined with blood thinners made a ghastly sight. The commanding but urgent voice he can hear behind him makes him finally push out of the chair, distantly wondering if his statement for the police was okay.

Summary
He can still feel the collar of the itchy green sweater on his neck, closing in as the walls of his loft seemed to bend and sway with the smiles of the elder Buckley’s as they looked at him from across the kitchen counter - Daniel standing right beside him. He’s still expecting he should be in the loft, practically waiting for a bruised and battered Maddie to barge down the bedroom door in front of him but his fear-stricken brain knows how he can fix this.
Shaking fingers open his phone screen and tap through his contacts until he reaches a very familiar one and hits the call button.
He brings it up to his ear and it rings once, then twice, then-“Buck?”
It’s not Bobby.

Summary
“Figure out what?” Bobby asks.
“The stuff the doctors were talking about. Your blood. How it came about.”
“I’m not sure. I still don’t exactly understand how it helped me….survive.” Bobby answers honestly.
He’s talking about surviving being buried alive. About his body and mind practically being resurrected ala Jesus Christ even though for all they knew the biohazard level 4 viral pathogen should have killed him. Permanently.
“Did you ever hear of ‘The Man with the Golden Arm?’” Buck asks.

Summary
“You doing alright? You just, I don’t know, seem to be lost in thought recently. Something on your mind?” Eddie continues.
Oh there’s something on his mind alright. But would it be worse or better to tell Eddie? To confess to the basic queer rite-of-passage he’s been found practically criminally partaking in. Falling in love with your straight best friend criminal activities. He’s kind of still living here and can’t really be afforded to be kicked out - he can’t see Eddie doing that anyway - because he confesses that he’s in love with the landlord.
