“You told me,” he begins, articulating the words through clenched teeth, “that if I played nice, that if I followed all your little orders, you’d strip me of my title and let me go, Mithos.”
In an instant, Mithos lunges forward and winds his fingers around Zelos’ throat, digging his thumb into the hollow space between his collarbones. Zelos’ arm shoots up to claw at Mithos’ small hand; he’s both shocked and spiteful that Mithos possesses so much raw power, even in such a frail body.
“You don’t have the right to call me that name,” Mithos says in a low, guttural sort of way, before finishing the clause with “Chosen.”
“And you,” Zelos grunts through the chokehold, “don’t have the right to call me that, either.”
“On the contrary, I believe I do.” Mithos releases his grip, forcing Zelos to stumble backwards on unsteady feet. “Your first lesson will be in obedience.”
Zelos wins his betrayal. Mithos doesn’t hold up his end of the bargain.

“Can I ask you something?” Ludger finally says, looking Julius in the eye. The dark patches of skin surrounding it look like an oil slick, like an ink stain. Julius responds by brushing his blackened hand over Ludger’s cheek, and he’s surprised to find that it still feels exactly like skin. Skin was skin was skin (Wasn’t it? Wasn’t it? Wasn’t it?)
Julius smiles that beaten-down grin back, brows raised. He says nothing, beckoning for Ludger to continue.
“Are you happy?” Ludger asks, then, making Julius falter.

The routine was always the same: show up, get paid in shitty beer, take a few photos while members of Wrath of the Gods struggle through their setlist, smoke a joint with Scott, act as an impromptu roadie after the show, and go the fuck home.
Instead, Adam is sitting on a gurney in the hallway of an Emergency Room, clearly “the other guy” after a group of stupid fucking jocks crashed the show.

I'm always amazed by how some authors are able to fill in the blanks canon left, and this character study of the relationship Adam and Amanda could have had totally had me gripped from start to finish. Both are such fascinating characters, and this fic does the justice that canon denied us. Breathtaking narration, amazing characterization, and I know I'll be back to reread this one.
Favourite line: The next week she began to work on a new test, her mind focused on the face of Venus as she welded wings for her to fly.

This fic captures everything I love about the ship and more. The power play is absolutely delicious, the way Marik and Bakura are equally matched despite their differences, and the way Marik spins the situation on its head all culminate in one of my favourite depictions of thiefshipping I've ever seen. I feel like this is an easy ship to get wrong, hence the lack of it in my bookmarks, but this? This is how you do it. Perfection in every sense of the word.
Favourite line: “None of us get what we deserve.” Marik smiled, his eyes growing bright with excitement. “That’s the point of redemption.”

This fic is absolutely incredible. The prose just blew me away, enraptured me, kept me on the edge of my seat for the entire course of the fic. These two have such a complicated relationship and this fic captures their back-and-forth and power dynamics in a way that just left me in awe when I was finished. The LLC tag is small, but this is absolutely a standout in it.
Favourite line: "I love you," he murmurs. / Ameya is frozen, but just for a moment. / "I'll get the syringe."

THIS. This is how you do deathshipping! And the one-sided tendershipping as well? This fic is simply perfection, and that's not a word I use lightly. I read this for the first time tonight and I've read it three times since. It only gets better every time. I can't get enough, and I know that I'll keep coming back to this one.
Favourite line: A few days later, Bakura wears Ryou’s body in front of the mirror, fingers ghosting over the bruises and cuts on his neck with a longing like Ryou’s never seen before. / Ryou doesn’t speak to him.

After bingeing this series I absolutely had to go check and see if there was any fic for it and this one absolutely blew me away. The metaphors about math and words contrasted by the abrasiveness of who the characters have grown to be over the course of the series and fic is incredible, and the writing style alone makes this worth reading. A true gem.
Favourite line: Ameya can sit in his room and allow meaningless numbers to swirl in his head as he recites pretty words to buffer the dullness, the fact that there is One Correct Solution. / Jaibo, however, can make the entire world join him in dreams. With just a tiny jab of the syringe.
