The first time it happened, Tim really was scared. The Red Hood was still an unknown— a crime lord that had come out of nowhere and started making waves in Gotham’s criminal underworld. Tim hadn’t known what to make of him and certainly didn’t think Hood had any good intentions when he kidnapped him.

Artemis let out a shaky breath, taking a sip of her drink to delay having to answer. “It’s hard,” she admitted, “but I’m getting through. Taking it day by day, ya know?”
Dick let out a breath. “God Artemis, I’m sorry. I can’t even imagine-”
“No. Quit it with the bullshit, Dick.”
Dick blinked, unsure what he had said to cause her frustration. “What do you-”
She cut him off. “Do you know why I invited you out tonight, Dick? It wasn’t so you could sit here and feel sorry for me, so you could dismiss your own pain while putting mine on a pedestal. I invited you out because I needed to be with someone who understands. Who knows what it’s like to lose someone you love.”
