Summary
White horses, dirty cowboy boots, unpaved roads, and an old truck without AC all tell the story of Hao’s first love. He’s seventeen, the summer is hot, and only the moon bears witness to the sweetness of Hanbin’s smile when he looks at him.
It takes only one summer for Zhang Hao to start singing along to songs he swore he would never learn the words to.
It takes eight more for him to realize that it wasn’t the songs themselves that made him want to sing, it was the person who kept putting them on. However, that person has long since stopped listening to music, and now all Hao can do is play them over and over in hopes that one day he’ll want to sing with him again.

“Oh wow,” Leo says smugly, and loud enough that Anxin, working at Register Two, can clearly hear him, “Look at that. I just bagged your entire order in thirty-two seconds. That’s…” He pauses for effect, holding up the customer’s receipt like it’s a medal. “…Employee of the Month speed.”
“Uh, thanks?” the customer replies hesitantly.
“Did you see that, Sangwonie,” Leo says, shouting over to where Sangwon is, a few aisles away, minding his business and stocking shelves.
Sangwon doesn’t notice, but Anxin does.
“Pfft, thirty-two seconds? Amateur hour! Watch this!”

Summary
It was cruel, maybe, to take pleasure in that. Cruel to savor the sight of his usually reticent boyfriend cornered by feelings he could neither articulate nor hide. Cruel to thrill at the possibility that Sangwon’s first impulse in the face of a perceived threat was not to withdraw, but to stake a claim, to defend.
Because what did that reveal? That beneath it all, Sangwon was afraid. That he feared losing what he had not yet learned how to hold. And in that case, Anxin was that thing.
Sangwon was jealous. Incredibly so. He simply had to be.
