Chris has always been a good child, because he's good (definition; benefit or advantage to someone or something) and he's a child (definition; a person not yet of the age of majority), and he never caused his parents (definition; one who begets or one who gives birth to or nurtures and raises a child) undue worry. He makes friends because he knows it's good for him to, he gets perfect grades, has a calm temper, and his manners are the envy of parents everywhere.
All this taken into account, Chris doesn't believe he needs to join the Teen Titans. He just can't imagine there's anything of value he would gain from it that can't be gained elsewhere.

There was an acute sense of shame making its way through Wally’s body. He felt heat rise in his cheeks. And what kind of father, what kind of person would need to check constantly that his children were still there in the bassinet, would distrust the baby monitors, would surge awake half a dozen times in one night with a panicky feeling in his ribs that insisted they weren't really there? Not a normal one, certainly.
Or: Wally West is the fastest man alive. He's also a father now. Turns out he has a lot to learn from his twin babies. It also turns out nothing stays buried forever, no matter how much he wishes it could.
