Outside of Hobie’s boat, there was a starling.
It sang with punctuated beats; a staccato pulsing that reminded him of the cop cars back in his city—the way the short bursts of sound echoed through the walls of the Thames, bringing the sound up, clashing with the rain.
Wherever the bird was, it must’ve been close, because its song was beating out the storm.
