    Summary

Now that Ellie’s alone, she just sits on her bed and looks at her book. She can’t call it reading anymore – by now she has read the thing front to back so many times that she could quote some paragraphs word for word.

That’s why it’s weird that it took her so long to notice the message written on the front page.

There, nestled just below the title, there’s one line of writing addressed to her. It doesn’t mention any names, but it is for her. It can’t be otherwise.
    It’s not Tommy’s handwriting, nor Maria's, nor Riley's.

But it’s somebody’s. Somebody who knew she’d like to read about Moon landing, spaceships, and astronauts. Somebody who cared enough to take this book, fix the hardcover with some scotch tape, and give it to her. Somebody who wrote those words on the front page knowing that they would make her smile.

    Somebody who loved her.

It’s late spring 2024 when Ellie wakes up in Jackson. She has a backpack full of books, a burn on her arm, and no memory of how she went from Boston QZ to Wyoming.

    Summary

"I brought you here, for space," Ekko explains when Jinx drags herself out of his lap, stands on shaky legs to get a better look. "Uh, sorry, I just thought the crowd was overwhelming you."

"Why do you care?" Jinx rasps, her voice scratching against her throat. "Why did you bring me to your space in the first place?"

"It's what I told you," Ekko says, so gently, more gently than Jinx thinks she's ever deserved. "And I… I've given up on you, before. I don't want to make that mistake again. Okay?"

The problem is that Powder, with her infectious smile and wild imagination, died. The problem lies in the fact that, although his mind understood Jinx and Powder were two different people, his heart couldn’t reconcile with this fact.

And so, blue peonies began to bloom in his thorax.

    Summary

A different type of fall comes after the climax.

The healing, the recovery, the denouement.

    Neither can prepare for this.

    Or,

The falling apart, the falling together.
