He was seeing ghosts. In the years of solitude he’d gone mad. There was no explanation for her presence here that was not madness. She died in his arms. He knew she was dead, he felt it, he watched her die, he watched it, and even if he had not seen her last breath leave her, centuries had passed since he had been made, she would be nothing but bones or ashes now, even if she had lived.
And yet, she stood before him, as if the centuries he’d spent wandering alone were nothing more than a horrible dream.
