There’s a soft grunt coming from behind the door. I watch goosebumps erupt on my skin as I pad towards the door in my socks, my eyes closed as I listen for even the faintest sound, when a familiar smell suddenly hits me.
Blood.
Smoke and blood and freshly-baked cinnamon rolls. Burnt butter.
