“Shit, Sam,” Gabriel says, kneeling by his side. Sam has pushed himself up to his elbows, looking down at the hole in his tigh like it had offended him. These Winchesters were made by very contradictory stuff. They’d survived more than any other human basically ever, but were still just that, human. Easy to break, quick to bleed out. So Gabe, being the kind and considerate archangel he was, reached out to heal Sam, because he could at least do that. He’d expected at least a thank you, maybe even get the tough guy to crack a smile, but before he could even reach him Sam had jerked his head back.
For a moment, Gabriel’s hand simply hung in the air between them, unsure what to do next as Sam eyes him warily.
“Um,” Gabe said, intelligently, before letting his hand drop in between them. He noted the way Sam relaxed just slightly, shoulders dropping a little bit from his ears, and Gabriel leaned back, giving him his space. “I guess that’s a no?”----

These days he’s a lot better at like, telling me that stuff. But then, I just didn’t know what to do really. So, I decided to experiment.”
Kaz nodded, as if this was the most normal way to go about it. Neither of them mentioned that it would have been a lot easier for Jesper to just ask Wylan what he wanted.
“And just how did you do that? Put your hand on the table of hope Wylan took it? He isn’t the best at picking up hints, you know.”
“No, I didn’t.” Jesper had indeed tried that. Wylan had not caught on.

Tobio drops his hands from his face at Hinata’s bright voice and looks down. Hinata beams up at him, wide and blinding, a ball of sunshine on a gymnasium floor. Tobio kind of feels like he’s burning when Hinata looks like this – sunbeams personified – but that’s okay.
He’ll happily spend the rest of his life getting burned by Hinata Shouyou.

“You don’t what?” Shouyou asks.
Kageyama looks uncomfortable enough to crawl out of his skin. He rubs his knuckles against his chin, roughly, and then tells the floor, “You’re sick, and you’re sad, and I don’t want you to be either of those things.”
Shouyou blinks once, then twice. And then, embarrassingly, he bursts into tears.
They could have played for longer. They deserved to play for longer.
Shouyou doesn’t know why he expected volleyball to be fair. And it’s all the more infuriating because it is the fairest sport in the whole world. Two teams. One net. Six players on each side, none of which get to hold the ball for more than a couple seconds at a time, and those seconds mean everything.
In which Shouyou and Tobio share a meal after the world ends. Or after the match with Kamomedai. It's all a matter of semantics, really.
