Summary
The boys settled in around the fire, with only a small amount of jostling as Lan Jingyi and Jin Ling fought for a spot that, as far as Wei Wuxian could tell, was no better than any of the others. Ouyang Zizhen and Lan Sizhui took a seat on either side of him, the latter folding into lotus pose, appearing as though he intended to meditate.
“Ah ah ah,” Wei Wuxian said and nudged Lan Sizhui with his foot. “No meditating! You can do that on your own time.”
Lan Sizhui didn’t protest, but did tilt his head curiously at him.
“What did you have in mind instead, Wei-qianbei?” Ouyang Zizhen asked.
“Now,” Wei Wuxian announced dramatically, “we tell stories.”
Jin Ling snorted. “Stories? We’re not kids!”
“Yeah,” Lan Jingyi piped up. “A-Ling here hasn’t wet the bed in days!”
“I do not wet the bed!”
“That’s what I said!”

Lan Wangji had two goals when he arrived at Gusu University, where he would be studying Illusion Magic in the university's acclaimed Music program:
1- Graduate with honors.
2- Do not acquire a soulmate.It should be easy. Lan Wangji was a good student, and should be able to achieve top marks if he studied hard. As for the issue of a soulmate...well, Lan Wangji was careful. Careful to keep people at a distance. Careful not to touch. He had spent a lifetime learning to avoid the casual brush of fingers or bumping shoulders with inattentive strangers.
But Lan Wangji had forgotten the promise he had heard Brother extract from his friend over the holiday: "I'm worried. Even Wangji needs friends. Keep an eye on him for me next year.”
Perhaps Lan Wangji had hoped it was forgotten. That the loud, intrusive young man was the type to forget promises, and that Lan Wangji would be able to get through his first year in peace.
It was a hope that crumbled away as Wei Wuxian walked into Lan Wangji's history class and plopped into the seat next to him with a beaming smile and a delighted laugh.
"What are the odds, xiandi?" Wei Wuxian said. "It looks like we'll be seeing a lot of each other."

He’s known for a while, but that doesn’t stop him from thinking, from dreading. Although he’s known for so long, known for months before he finally walked into the nearest tattoo parlor, there's still the apprehension that inevitably comes with the permanence of a tattoo.
He knows he wants this, though.
He knows he wants peace. He knows he wants to mend. He knows he wants a permanency that he chose, not a permanency that he was stuck with after the dust finally settled. He knows what he wants, knows it like he knows what it means to live and what it means to die - to almost die.
Clover also knows that he wants roses.

“I can’t,” Clover snapped. It was so unexpected that half the table flinched. “But you do. You sleep until 10:32, which is ridiculous by the way, and then Ruby and Penny wake you up and you all play video games for two hours and then you come here. And you eat the most disgusting sandwich I’ve ever seen in my life, which somehow does not kill you, and then you come to the briefing along with everyone else and spend the entire meeting taking potshots at Winter and staring at my crotch. What you do not do is wake up at a reasonable hour and eat a…a healthy breakfast.”

For a long while, there's quietude, but not peace. There's a lull, a respite, a tranquility like that of the silence that follows a storm, but it isn't peace. There's no peace until there's healing, and there's no real first step to healing.
But Clover can let himself believe that something like peace can be reached when Qrow turns to him and, for the first time since returning from Atlas, wears a smile that doesn't look perilously close to shattering.
