dream hasn't gone this long without visiting him since whatever this thing was between them began. visits in the waking, sure; not quite thirty years into this new arrangement of theirs and hob's already gone years without seeing his friend in waking hours. there's never any real pattern to his visits – hob will spend a month seeing dream every other day and then not again for eight months. he's grown accustomed to that.
it's been two years of silence, now. and hob knows something's wrong.

he's had enough practice by now that closing out his life in one place to move to the next is the work of days, and it's almost exactly a week after finally setting foot back in london that hob walks into a train station, earthly possessions packed neatly into a trunk and a healthy sum in a bank account ready to be wired elsewhere, and he buys a ticket for the next train heading far, far out from the city.
