Summary
The organization in the archives was going to be the death of Jon. Not any of the supernatural events, none of the strange beings, or the mysterious items that sometimes showed up along with a person’s statement.
No, it was going to be the way that the old archivist organized all the statements and documents that went along with it that was going to do him in. Trying to sort through hundreds upon hundreds of documents and statements, struggling to grasp any semblance of a pattern while nothing seemed to go in order. It was going to kill him one of these days.

Jon stopped, stiffening. “Mm hrmh mm mmh hm,” he said defensively.
“You really can’t hold a tune, can you, boss?”

It was just an ordinary walk to a restaurant. Tim had insisted that if they were going to talk, there would be no tape recorders or weird Archives ghosts listening in. A bit of fresh air wouldn’t kill him, Tim had said. What could go wrong?
By the time Jon spots the white delivery van, it’s much too late.
The Stranger kidnaps Jon. Tim comes along for the ride.

His throat is so sore. The blur finally resolves into a round face with worried blue eyes behind wire-rimmed glasses. Martin.
“Are you okay?” Martin says again.
