Tales of Puppy Kara

Chapter 6: Part vi

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Eliza grabbed her purse. She looked at the living room, where Kara was sitting, her attention on the television. “Kara, ready to go?”

The blond looked at Eliza, before nodding.

“Words Kara,” Eliza told her, her voice gentle.

Kara just hummed her affirmative, and Eliza couldn’t help but laugh at her. Kara skipped towards Eliza, where the older blond grabbed the young girl’s backpack. “Turn around,” Eliza told her, and Kara did. “Left arm,” Eliza told her, and Kara raised her right hand. “No, the other one.” Kara raised the other one and Eliza helped put the backpack on the girl. “Okay, we are ready to go.”

Kara nodded, before frowning. “Lena!” Kara turned and ran to her bedroom. Eliza’s eyes followed her, and waited for her return. Kara ran back with a stuffed golden retriever, a huge grin on her face.

Eliza smiled at that. Lena had given Kara the stuffed dog, and Kara named it after her. And Kara barely went anywhere without it. She slept with it in her arms, always sitting next to her in her car rides, or in her backpack if they went out. Eliza loved the purity of the friendship between Lena and Kara.

Lillian had told her about Lena’s struggles to connect with people, especially in a highly competitive school. And the fact that she didn’t have to compete against Kara, or have to be smarter in any way allowed for her to connect to the blond girl. Lillian said that she had seen Lena act more her own age after meeting Kara than she had prior to that.

And Eliza could see a small change in Kara. Lex and Lillian had started researching ways to help Kara’s development. And Kara was learning. But it would be a progress. But in studying Kara’s current development, they knew that Kara’s brain could adapt quicker, but only when she wanted to. And at the moment, Kara just wanted to have fun.

Eliza made sure Kara was strapped in her seat before heading to the Luthor mansion. That was another thing Eliza was grateful for. The Luthors were happy to take in Kara when she had no babysitter, such as that moment. The elder Danvers had to work, and Alex had a date with Maggie. Lillian had offered to take Kara for the day.

Once arriving at the mansion, Kara kicked her seatbelt off and waited for Eliza to unlock the door. (They learned the hard way to baby proof the car door after Kara almost got hit by a car after running off.)

Eliza opened the door and watched as Kara took off, running to the front door. Before Kara could know, the door opened and Lena stood there, a smile on her face.

“Lena!” Kara called out, tackling her friend down. Lena let out a laugh as she hit the ground. Kara picked her head up and looked around, before seeing Lillian standing there.

“Ms. Lena!” Kara exclaimed, standing up and hugging Lillian as well. The older woman tensed up, her eyes wide. She gave Kara’s back a pat, her eyes on Eliza.

The older blond grinned, “Kara, let her go.”

The young girl pouted and stepped back, looking at her mother. Eliza looked at Lillian. “Thank you so much for doing this.”

“It’s no problem. Lena has not stopped talking about hanging out with Kara all day,” Lillian said, shooting her daughter a teasing smile.

Mother ,” Lena hissed, glaring at her mother.

Kara looked at Eliza, her eyes wide adn filled with joy.

“You be good, okay? Eliza told the girl, wrapping her arms around her.

“Yes,” Kara nodded, leaning into her mother.

“And you listen to Ms. Luthor.”

“Yes.”

“I mean it Kara.”

Kara looked at Eliza with innocent eyes. “Yes.”

Eliza rolled her eyes and turned to the other woman in the room. “My phone will stay open. Please call if you need anything.”

Kara beamed. But then her eyes widened. “Lena!”

“Yes,” the green eyed girl asked, but Kara ignored her and ran back to the car. She pressed her face against the window and whined.

“Lena,” Kara whined, turning to look at Eliza.

Eliza opened the door and Kara quickly launched herself into the car and grabbed the stuffed dog. She took a step away from the car and Eliza gave the girl one last hug, before leaving her with the Luthors.

Lena watched Kara, seeing the girl gripping the hose. With a smirk, Lena walked to the tap and when Kara was looking into the opening of the hose, she turned the water. She laughed when she saw Kara get sprayed on the face. Kara glared at the other girl and aimed the hose at her. Lena ran away, laughing.

Kara’s leg got caught on the hose and she fell, the water wetting the soil. Lena watched as Kara got interested in that and placed her hands on the dirt. Kara’s eyes widened at how squishy it got.

“Lena!” Kara called, getting two hands full of mud.  She tossed it in the air and laughed as it landed next to her. Kara jumped into the small mud puddle and started to roll in it. “Lena!”

“Kara no!” Lena exclaimed, looking to make sure her mother wasn't coming in.

“Lena yes!” Kara then rolled from her back to her stomach. She let her face fall into the mud.

Lena just watched, her eyes wide. Kara pushed herself up and gasped for air.

“Shit,” Lena cursed, seeing the girl covered in mud.

Kara seemed to pick that up and frowned. “Shi’?”

“No! Don’t repeat that!” Lena said, falling to her knees to cover Kara’s mouth. She looked to the door, expecting her mother to be standing there. “Let’s get you cleaned up, okay?”

“Yes?”

Lena offered her hand to Kara, and Kara allowed herself to be pulled up. Lena pulled Kara into the house and straight into her bathroom.

Lillian was in her office, knowing that her daughter and Kara were enjoying their time together. She had heard them earlier laughing and screaming in the yard, and Lillian chose to ignore it as she worked on her project.

It was when it got too quiet that Lillian decided to check on the two girls. She went to the yard, but found it lacking two teenage girls. Lillian looked at the ground, found the soil wet. She looked at the ground in the house, and saw shoe prints. Unsure if she would like what she’d find, she followed them to her daughter’s bathroom.

“Stop!” she heard Lena squeal, before laughing,

“Is everything okay in there?” Lillian asked, giving the door a knock.

“Yes, we’re okay,” Lena responded. And before her better judgement, the older woman opened the door. She raised an eyebrow at her daughter.

Lena was sitting next to the bathtub, fully clothing, her hands covered in soap. Kara was sitting in the tub, fully clothed, the tub was half filled, and she was covered in mud. Kara’s blond head was covered with shampoo. “Ms. Lena!” Kara greeted, splashing the water.

“Hello Ms. Danvers, can you tell me what happened here?”

“Fun! Lena, was’!”

“I can see that, but don’t you think it would be better to do it yourself?” Lillian asked, knowing that Kara couldn’t get cleaned with her clothing still on.

“I-I don’t think she’ll be able to wash her hair,” Lena responded, looking at her mother with bright red cheeks.

“She can shower, and then we can wash her hair on the sink,” Lillian suggested, looking at her daughter.

Lena seemed to think about it before nodding. Kara got up in the tub, but slipped and Lena quickly launched to catch her, falling in the tub herself.

Lillian let out a sigh, closing her eyes. “Somebody help me.”

“Shi’.”

Alex looked at the girl next to her. She smiled softly, seeing Maggie’s face. Alex was so nervous, so happy, so excited to be on a date with Maggie. The two teenagers decided to have lunch, and have a walk.

“So Sawyer, what are your aspirations?” Alex asked, the two sitting across from each other.

Maggie raised an eyebrow. “Aren’t we supposed to talk about the weather or something?”

Alex smirked. “So how about that weather? I think I saw a cloud.”

“Just one? All alone?”

Alex nodded her head, an amused look on her face.

“And how did that make you feel?” Maggie asked, aiming her fist to Alex as if she were holding a mic.

Alex leaned forward. “Like this was going to be a good day.”

Maggie’s smile softened. “I want to be a cop. And work my way up.”

Alex raised an eyebrow. “Yeah? Can I know why?”

“I want to protect those who can’t protect themselves. Those who were wronged and need answers. To avenge those who can’t anymore. I want to save people,” Maggie responded, looking into Alex’s eyes.

“I think you’ll be the greatest detective anyone will ever meet. I know that those you protect, they will be the safest people ever.”

“How about you Danvers? What do you want to do?”

“I’ve always wanted to be a doctor, like my mother. It seems we want the same things. We want to save people.”

Maggie reached over and wrapped Alex’s hand with her own. “I guess so.”

Their food arrived and they ate and laughed. They talked about their parents (how Maggie didn’t go home often because of how her parents weren’t accepting of her sexuality), of Alex’s education (how much schooling she would need just to be a resident in a hospital) and of their younger siblings (Lena and Kara).

After they finished their food, they decided to window shop.

“Let’s go inside,” Maggie said when they ended up in front of a pet store. Alex shrugged and followed her inside. “Do you think Kara will smell other dogs on me?”

Alex just laughed. “I’ll just get her chew toys?”

“Does she like them? Does she still like treats?” Maggie asked, looking curious. She was inspecting the dog toys, finding the ropes, bones, and chewing toys.

“Kara has tasted better foods than those bland ones. I mean, I’ve tried to sneak dog food into her diet, but she always notices. I think she still had her dog senses,” Alex responded, grabbing a squirrel toy. She grinned at the rodent. Kara had a hatred towards squirrels.

“Do let her inspect the food? Cause she may not notice if she’s distracted,” Maggie responded, grabbing a laser. “Do you think Kara will chase this?”

Alex laughed. “Only one way to know.”

“How does it feel? The whole Kara situation?”

That got Alex thinking. She looked at the toy in her hand. “It’s different. I was so used to being an only child, so waking up one day to having Kara in my family, it’s weird. But she fits in my family. It’s like she was always there. I don’t think I have ever loved anyone as much as I love my little sister.”

Maggie was staring at Alex, with a soft smile on her face.

Alex smiled back. “Let’s pay for these things and let’s continue this date.”

Maggie reached for her hand and nodded.

Lillian sat on the couch, exhausted after her day. After helping Lena wash Kara’s hair, the girl tried to run back to the yard. Lillian found Kara’s backpack and placed it back on the girl. She then connected the backpack to a banister, and watched Kara struggle to unhook herself. When Kara was unable to get herself free, she just pouted, her arms crossed over her chest. Kara glared at Lillian, giving her the meanest look she could muster, but it just made Lillian smile, seeing how adorable the blond was.

Lena walked to Kara and gave her a pat on the head. The glare on Kara’s face disappeared and she gave her attention to Lena. Lillian told her daughter to release Kara, but to keep a hand on her so the blond couldn’t run away. Kara’s eyes landed on Lena Jr. and pulled at human Lena's hand. “Lena.”

“You want Lena?” Lena asked, a soft smile on her face.

Kara nodded her head. “Lena please.”

Her daughter walked Kara to the couch and Kara yanked the stuffed animal, cuddling it close. She looked at Lena and shoved the stuffed dog into her chest. Lena smiled and hugged the dog. Kara beamed and took small Lena back and looked at Lillian, offering it to the woman.

Lilian narrowed her eyes, but allowed Kara to press the stuffed animal into her chest. Kara beamed, looking quite proud of herself. Kara grabbed the stuffed dog and held it against her chest. With her other hand, she grabbed human Lena’s hand.

“S’ish?” Kara asked, looking at Lillian. “Yum?”

“I’ll have food ordered. Lena, put the movie on,” Lillian said, looking at her youngest child.

Lena pushed Kara onto the couch and had her sit down. Kara pouted.

Lena and Kara barely lasted the film, and were asleep when Stitch arrived on Earth. Kara’s arm were around Lena, cuddling into her, with little Lena in between them. Kara let out a small snore, nuzzling to Lena.

Lillian was exhausted with the girl, but she couldn’t help but smile at the two girls.

Maggie laughed as Kara followed the red light. The young girl looked annoyed, but didn’t stop chasing it. Lena was cheering Kara on, and Alex was watching with a smile on her face.

“You almost got it!” Lena called out, watching as Kara charged for the dot. Alex flinched when Kara crashed into the wall and fell backwards. The girl laid there, unsure what had happened.

Maggie turned the light off and the other two girls looked ready to launch to Kara, who still seemed dazed.

“Kar?”

“Owie,” Kara muttered, tears in her eyes. Alex quickly ran to her little sister and pulled her into lap. Kara was trembling, leaning into her big sister. Alex rubbed her back, looking at Maggie.

“You’re okay,” Alex whispered, rocking her little sister.

“Owie Alex,” Kara whispered into her ear.

“I know, but it’s going to be okay.”

“Shi?”

Alex blinked hearing the curse. She looked at Maggie, who shook her head. THen to Lena, who wouldn’t make eye contact.

“Lena Luthor, what did you teach my sister?”

Notes:

Hope you guys enjoyed the Sanvers date and the Luthors/Kara moments.

I am not entirely happy with the latter, but I did want Kara rolling in the mud.
