Executing Family Reunions

Summary:

Executions are just less boring family meetups to the Monkey family.

“Stop the execution, now!”


Luffy looked up from his uncomfortable squirming and brightened when he saw part of his crew, “Sanji, Zoro, Hey guys!”


He couldn’t hear what they were saying, he was too far away but he was happy enough to see them safe and not in his position. The crowd below Luffy dispersed, running in different directions. Luffy noticed that the clouds above them were dark and cloudy and the humidity was getting annoying.


Buggy propped a foot on top of the bar of wood that held Luffy’s head in place, “You made it, Zoro. But you’re just a little bit too late!” 


Zoro and Sanji were charging into the fray of small-time pirates trying to make it to their captain with all their might. Buggy was cackling along with the lady who claimed to be Alvida. The clouds were rumbling and it felt like the heat’s tension was on the cusp of breaking. It felt just like the jungle back on Dawn Island.


Buggy lifted his arms high into the humid air. He would not miss his swing.


“Zoro, Sanji, Ussop, Nami!” Luffy called out, he was their captain after all, it would be poor form to leave them so abruptly without even a goodbye. “Sorry, but… I’m dead!”


It was the least Luffy could do, to say goodbye with a bright smile.


The clouds’ rumbling grew deafening. Then, a neon blue was all that Luffy could see, the colour felt nice and thrilling. An adventurous feeling, how electrifying! There was a loud screech of metal on metal before even louder crashing sounded.


Next thing Luffy knew was that Buggy looked extra crispy and he was off of the platform. Fate did not want him to recycle Roger’s last stand. Seems like he would be able to continue on his journey for another time after all. 


Luffy laughed as his smile widened. 


“Alright, let’s go!”


And with that, the Straw Hats started booking it to the Going Merry. 


As the trio ran to reunite with Ussop and Nami on the ship, Luffy cheerfully waved at the cloaked figure on one of the roofs.


“Tell Sabo I said Hi and that he owes me fresh meat!”


The cloaked figure raised a hand, not moving from his spot on roof shingles.

 

Luffy laughed.


It had been a while since Luffy last saw his Dad!

“You are really chill for the situation that is happening.” remarked Koby. 


 “Why wouldn’t I be?” The vice admiral stroked his beard. 


It was a bright day despite everything. 


The sun was shining and the fluffy clouds were speckled across the sky in a slow drift. It was almost a rarity on the Grand Line, even more so in Marineford where there was always fire or ice when it came to the air around them.


“You said that he is your grandson,” Koby pulled his black circle-rimmed glasses to rest on top of his green bandana, “It's honestly messed up for Admiral Sengoku to force you to attend this.”


Garp laughed at that, finally smiling since hearing the news that one of his idiot grandsons had gotten captured. 


“Ah, this isn’t the first family execution I've attended by far!”


“What?”


“I met my daughter-in-law at my sons’ third execution after all!”


What a bright day for a reunion!

Ace was seriously getting pissed off at Sengoku. 


“Tell the world who your father is!”


“It's Whitebeard, you deaf goat!” shouted Ace.


Now, the ravenette understood that Marines took oaths seriously and served with their life, his Gramps was a marine after all. (And Sengoku’s best friend to boot.) But this was just getting annoying, Sengoku needed to retire if he was this hard of hearing. Ace didn't survive Garp's Hell training and then Impel Down to deal with idiots.


If the Fleet Admiral kept on spouting off crap, Kuzan might just have to replace him. Gramps would forgive him, probably. At the very least Kuzan wouldn't have the balls to confiscate his rice crackers.

 

“Your real father, boy!”


“Will you even listen to me!”


“Fire Fist Ace’s real father is Gol D. Roger, the King of the Pirates!”


“He’s my biological father, not my real one! He never raised me because he's been dead, dipshit!”


If it weren’t for the seastone chains around his limbs, Ace would’ve smacked the Buddha right across the face.


“He’s not denying it?” Helmeppo and Koby felt their jaws drop open. 


The water pulled back, then the Whitebeard pirates arrived.


Ace looked at them with surprise written on his face, “You guys are here?”


“Of course we are!” said Marco, his voice descending from the sky, flaming blue wings keeping him in his high spot. Ace had to squint to see Marco in his position, the sun was too bright. 


Garp gave Ace a fist of love to the crown of his head, “They are your Nakama, shitty grandson. Of course they would come for you. If only you were a marine then this wouldn’t have happened!”


Ace gave shark teeth at that, “Shut it, shitty Gramps!”


“Gramps!?” Most of Marineford, pirates and marines alike shouted in unison.


Then, from the sky, a rubber noodle came, falling with style. His straw hat clear to see in the summer sun.


“Ace! I am here to save you!”


Ace looked up but he didn't grin, he didn't, “Luffy, you idiot!” 


“Perhaps next time, we should hold a reunion at a restaurant.” murmured Sabo from behind Ace. It had been a while since the ravenette had met up with both his brothers, this was kinda nice. Y'know, if it was ignored that this was his own execution. The blonde was knelt behind Ace’s form, picking at the lock to the chains.


Ace grinned at that suggestion.


“No town would let us.”


“True.”


“Straw Hat Luffy’s father is the most wanted man in the world, the legendary Dragon!”


Ace felt a vein pulsate as he shouted at Sengoku again, “Would you just stop! What is with you and reading our family tree out loud?”


“What, it's true!?” Most of Marineford shouted in unison once again.


With a click, Sabo patted Ace’s shoulder. 


Fire Fist was now free of chains and was going to make it everyone else’s problem. Ace dusted his shorts, Impel Down had worn out his clothes, he’d need to wash them after this fight fest. Ace set fire to the execution stand, leaping to the ground with Sabo.


They couldn’t let Luffy have all the fun, after all.


 It was time to Tango with some marines!

 “Let me get this right,” Marco breathed in deep, “You were raised by Garp the Fist.”


 “Dadan raised us!” Luffy cheerfully said as he stuffed his face with as much food as he could.


 “A mountain amongst bandits.” Nodded Ace, as he slurped on his beef broth. He couldn’t wait to eat actual food, but the nurses said that Ace had to start small.

 

 Luffy giggled through his triple meat skewer, "Mountain Bandit!" 


 Sabo, taking pity on the whitebeards, explained, “Garp is our grandfather, but gave us to Dadan to raise us due to his deployments.”


 “And Dragon is Luffy’s dad and Garp’s son-in-law?”


 “Ah, Dragon is Gramps’ biological son.”


 “How did that happen?!” shouted the Whitebeards. A marine like Garp the Fist raised the Revolutionary leader, Dragon? There was no way. 


 Luffy looked up, stacks of plates surrounding him on the table, “More meat please!”


 “And more broth too please!” added Ace with a grin, bowls surrounding him in a slightly less mountainous way.


 Marco sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose.


 Garp and Dragon had left Moby earlier, after checking on the trio of trouble-making brothers. Everyone had nearly shot the marine in the balls for treating Ace, one of his grandsons, at his own execution. Strangely enough however, Ace had nearly shot Dragon of all people. Something about not paying child support and raising the wrong kid. The blonde part of the brother's trio managed to thwap Ace on the backside of his head to make him see sense.


For his efforts, Sabo had received a three day leave to stay with Luffy and Ace. 

 

Of which, Luffy was currently testing the limits and endurance of the chefs. 


And Ace was… Marco glanced at his brethren, Ace was alive. 


That was all that mattered in the end.


“What do you mean public executions are family reunions to you?!”
