Chapter 1: Chapter One - Time Standing Still
Chapter Text
[////-//-//] - Sophia N. Light
It happened. The very concept that had struck us all with cosmic terror and unimaginable fear had finally breached reality and plagued us. The sun itself turned a vile infectious enemy bound contractual and cosmic to destroy us all. It was near impossible to even get them to consider clearing me for a departure to my site. I didn’t care if I died, I didn’t care if I had to fight my way through it. I needed to see what happened, if those on-site were even still alive to recall their experiences of terror. My entire career at this God-forsaken place was built upon trust in me by my coworkers and subordinates, and if I abandoned them in this time of need, what good would all that trust be?
Wrought with panic, I passed through the long-forgotten passageways in the bowels of this horrific place, navigating as best I could. The roars of amalgamated beasts drone overhead. I have to repel the thought from my mind that they, too, were once human like I am. I picked up my speed. I ran through those tunnels like my life depended on it. Which, in all honesty, it probably did. My chest burned and my legs ached by the time I reached the door to the center complex.
I fumble for my keycard for what seems like hours, though in reality it was only seconds. The soft green light and mechanical beep and whirrs had never sounded so comforting. It was a sense of safety in this place, which thankfully, had no windows. The Atrium was long closed off due to this awful event, thankfully with no casualties on my site. Yet. Nobody can be too sure of the situation, not even me. Thankfully I seem to have found the room where they’re all staying, aptly our panic room.
They seemed apprehensive to let me in, as if I were one of those
things
in disguise. I dismissed those unsaid claims, and allowed myself entry. Apocalypse or not I was still the director, and I was going to get them out of this. No matter who or what stood in my way. The room itself was quiet and seemed to be mournful, though I couldn't count one missing person. Every doctor on-site was there, even a few D-class that some had taken pity on. I suppose in a time like this there was no hierarchy. Only those who survived, and those who didn't.
How would we even manage to survive? None of us wanted to die here, and the site would run out of supplies soon enough. Maybe scavenging at night would be something to consider, but not now. Now we had to think of a plan to even make it to nightfall...
