Chapter Text

A few days later...

Sunny Milk quickly ran across the courtyard, trying to avoid the festival goers and make her way to where Reimu was standing. Her, Luna, and Star had come to make a proper apology for the mess they’d made, but when they’d arrived they’d found that Reimu was hosting the first of this year’s flower viewings, filling the shrine with visiters. ‘Hopefully nobody else notices us...’ thought Sunny, dodging around Suika’s drunken walk and creeping up to where Reimu and Orin were sitting next to each other, Reimu looking at Orin uncomfortably. “M-Miss Reimu?” she said out loud, dropping her invisibility and waving at Reimu. “Could you please come over here? We’ve got something to show you.” Jumping slightly at her voice, Reimu looked down at Sunny suspiciously, and for a few seconds Sunny was worried that she wouldn’t come – but after a few moments she simply shrugged, getting up off the ground.

Sure, I can check this out” said Reimu, walking over and waving off Orin before she could follow them. “But if this turns out to be more trouble, I’m beating you black and blue.”

No, it’s nothing like that.” replied Sunny as they approached the bushes at the edge of clearing. “We just wanted to make a proper apology for all the trouble we caused earlier – and give you something to try and make up for it a bit.” The bushes started rustling, and after a few moments Luna and Star made their way out of them, dragging behind them a large and somewhat roughly made wooden box with a slatted top. “We know it doesn’t completely make up for what happened, but hopefully... this is a start.” she said as Luna and Star set the offering box down in front of Reimu. Reimu didn’t say anything in reply for what felt like forever, and as she stared at the box Sunny started to worry that maybe they’d done something wrong. ‘Is it too small? Did we mess something up while building it? We did, didn’t we-’

Wow, I... I don’t know what to say.” said Reimu, her voice filled with emotion. “Th-thanks, I guess – you really didn’t have to do that.” Reaching down, she picked up the box and started walking back to the shrine, before stopping and looking back at the three of them. “You know, you should come and join us!”

Really? After all that’s happened?”

Yeah, don’t worry about it.” replied Reimu, shrugging slightly. “You three seem genuine, and there’s plenty of sake to go around!” Sunny looked over to Luna and Star as Reimu walked away towards the shrine, and after a few moments they walked over into the clearing to join the party, her stomach filled with anticipation.

Thanks, Reimu...’

Luna Child sat next to Sunny and Star, slowly drinking a glass of sake and trying not to pay attention to all the people around her. While Reimu had reassured them that things were fine, Luna could feel the stares of people gazing on them, and she wasn’t sure that they were all positive. ‘Is this really alright?’ she thought, glancing around at her surroundings. ‘Surely they know how much trouble we’ve caused, right-’

Umm... Hi?”

Luna and the others jumped up as Marisa walked up to them, her mind flashing back to the burning forest. “Whoa, calm down! I’m not here to fight.” called out Marisa, backing off with her hands in the air. “In fact, I wanted to congratulate you – I saw a bit of what you did earlier, and I really underestimated you.”

Really? Does that mean you aren’t mad at us?”

What? No!” replied Marisa. “Well... maybe a little...” she continued, looking a bit embarressed. “Look, I know you never meant to hurt Reimu, and you’ve done more than enough to make up for it – not many people would do what you did. Now, I’m sure you’ve got a pretty good story to tell!” she said, turning back towards the shrine. “Why don’t I go fetch Reimu, and you three tell me all about it?” with that, Marisa walked back to the shrine, and after a few moments Luna jumped up to join her, Star and Sunny following behind. Sitting down next to Reimu, Luna looked into the sky, taking a small sip of her drink as Sunny’s animated description of the past few days filled the air.

At last, everything was back to normal.

Notes:

And that's all, everyone! Well, for now, at least - I might do a sequel, but that won't be for a while. For now, though, goodbye, and thanks for reading!
