Chapter Text

You looked over your shoulder, not seeing anyone. Strange, you could swear there was someone staring at you… No, you were just paranoid, why would anyone follow you? This was a small village, everyone knew everyone here. A shiver ran down your spine and you looked around again, still not seeing anyone. It was just nerves, nothing was happening, everything was going to be okay.

Deciding to ignore your instincts, you went to work, the feeling never leaving you, even inside the shop; it was a slow day and no one was looking at you, there was no one window shopping and no one was even walking down the road. There was something wrong, but what? What was making you so anxious? As your shift ended, you walked back home.

Even though you wanted to run back home, you stubbornly decided to take your usual route. The feeling got stronger, you looked around; no one was there. Gritting your teeth, red tinted your vision, why were you being this dumb over nothing? No one was there! You ignored your thundering heart and walked to the forest that surrounded the village; if you walked through it to the northwest, you’d get home in 20 minutes. This was okay, no one was following you so everything was okay: nothing would happen because your nerves were all over the place, nothing else, nothing more. If only your heart would stop beating so fast, you could almost feel it in your mouth; your ears rang so loudly you could barely hear when you stepped on twigs. Somehow that got you even angrier. You shouldn’t be this afraid for nothing, you were not a coward, you could fight just fine, everything was going to be okay for fuck’s sake.

A hand covered your mouth and nose, stifling your scream as you were dragged deeper into the forest. Kicking and dragging your feet did nothing more than leave a trail on the ground. You clawed at the arm around your waist but the person didn’t flinch even as you dug your nails in it. Holy shit how strong was this person? Just who had you now? Tears of anger and frustration wetted your cheeks; you shouldn’t have been an idiot, you should have followed your instincts!

You didn’t know how long the person was dragging you, all you knew was that once they stopped in a clearing, you two were so deep into the forest you could barely see. Fuck. The person shoved you into their lap face down, no matter how much you kicked or tried to shove yourself upright, they held a bruising grip on you, forcing you to stay in position.

Something was shining on your body, casting a blue light; you looked down and screamed into the hand on your mouth. Blue fire was lighting your body! Suddenly lightheaded, you kept screaming, barely feeling the pain from kicking the ground too hard; it took you who knows how long to realize it didn’t hurt. The blue fire was licking at your skin but all you felt was a tingle, it didn’t even burn— as suddenly as it appeared, the fire disappeared without a trace, its sudden absence leaving the clearing colder than before. As you shivered, you realized you could feel the person’s clothes on your skin, what? How— looking down, you saw you were naked now; the fire ate away your clothes.

Cold sweat ran down your temple, the hand on your mouth let go and you wasted no time in begging, “Please don’t rape me, I’d do anything else, please just don’t—”

A man’s voice replied, sounding offended, “Hey, it’s not cool to say that to someone. Don’t worry you’re not my type at all! I’m just going to carve something on your back and then bury you alive. Nothing more, I promise.”

Relief filled you for a second before the rest of the sentence registered in your brain. What? What the fuck? Who could say that, as if being tortured and killed was supposed to be comforting?

“That’s— why? Why are you doing this? Please just let me go, I won’t tell anyone! I—” The man started singing in Korean and you had a second to be puzzled by it before a scream pierced your head as horrible pain exploded from your shoulder blades. It took you a second to realize you were the one screaming.

The sharp pain continued, there was something strong and furry keeping your legs still as the man carved shapes in your back. What was happening? You knew the answer, you should know what was happening, but your mind was cotton and you couldn’t remember what it was. The pain stopped for a second and you sobbed in relief even as the wound pulsated, but then the pain came back in full force. Over and over, the pain would move through your back, stopping in intervals; it was almost worse, because you couldn’t get used to it. Strangely, it was like getting your tattoos done, except the pain from that was nothing compared to this. When the pain reached your ribs, black spots appeared in your vision as strength left your body.

Only now you realize there was blood tickling your lower back and your sides. Tears and snot fell to the ground below you. You shouldn’t have been stubborn, why were you so stupid? Why were you so prideful? Now you were going to die painfully and horribly. How long until they found your body? You sobbed loudly, the man kept singing the whole time as you babbled, begging for mercy.

Your head was light and it took you a minute to realize the pain was no longer sharp, now your shoulder blades burned and pulsated. The man freed you but you couldn’t even lift your finger, your whole body felt like it was swimming in cement; closing your eyes, you stayed pliant as the man grabbed you and put you in— in a hole. Oh, right; you were going to be buried alive.

Except that didn’t happen, the hole was just wide enough for your body; even if you could move, you wouldn’t be able to do it in this tight space. Even then, the hole was only deep enough to have you buried from toes to neck; your head stuck out of the hole. Then you whimpered as you registered the pain from your wounds getting dirt in them, burning your back like acid. Fuck.

Your vision filled with black spots, the little you could see was getting more and more blurry, the black spots getting bigger and bigger. Time lost its meaning, all you could feel was the burning on your back and the soreness of your whole body. All you could think of was to beg the universe to kill you soon. You didn’t want to hurt anymore, all you wanted was to die.

Heartbeat getting weaker by the second, you shivered at the sudden coldness of your body as your heart beat for the last time. The last thing you saw was the blurry grin of your killer, who was still singing, a young man with white hair and blue eyes the same color as the fire.

He’d be cute if he weren’t a lunatic.

Rin finished singing with a grin; just as he was going to leave, Amaimon appeared next to him.

“I don’t get it.”

Sighing, Rin looked at Amaimon, “You’ve never understood contemporary art, Amaimon. Performances are supposed to make you think!”

Amaimon tilted his head, “Why is her head outside the hole? Did you make a mistake?”

“Nah, I just wanted to see the light fade from her eyes; it gives death more meaning, don’t you think?” Rin shrugged.

“I don’t really think or feel anything when I burst bubbles.” Amaimon shrugged.

Laughing, Rin shook his head, “Yeah, I guess you don’t. Well, let’s agree to disagree.”

Amaimon shrugged, Rin knew the Demon King didn’t care either way, “Sure. More importantly, let’s play!”

“Oh, fun! Sure, I’m finished here, let’s go somewhere else then.”

With that, both disappeared, not sparing another glance to the corpse.
