Created for DBDA Creature Week Day 01 : Divine & Infernal Beings
The Dead Boy Detectives Agency left him on his own in Port Townsend, went back home to London never to come back again, and Thomas made the really poor decision of getting Edwin's sould back, whatever it takes.
It takes a lot, actually. Especially since, y'know, the idiots did came back and are very much a part of the Cat King's life, now. So he's gonna have to deal with the demons, protect Edwin from it, and possibly pay a hefty price to make sure his ghost gets the afterlife he deserves.
He's pretty sure he can take it.---
After a week of being warded off of Port Townsend, Edwin can finally mirror travel back there again. He's not ready for what he is going to see. He is not ready for what he is going to have to do.
MAJOR TW : body horror, implied/referenced torture, death of a loved character (though not permanent, mind you).

Summary
He sees her like a mirage in the endless desert he’s currently driving through- the hitchhiker holding up her thumb to be picked up on the side of the road.
She doesn’t look like that much of a stranger- red curls half-pulled back, a purple crushed velvet jacket over a pair of jean shorts, tights, and a faded men’s shirt, earbuds in her ears. She looks the picture of studied nonchalance, as if she wouldn’t care one way or another if she got picked up by a passing car.
And yet there is something in her stance that betrays her hunger.
No- her need.
They’re in the middle of nowhere. She’s at least a couple of miles away from the nearest gas station, and all she has is her messenger bag. She might have a water bottle inside of that thing, but that’s not gonna get her too far.
And while Thomas is built a bit more impervious than most, humans very much are not.
Hitchhikers are a gold mine for what he hungers for- unending desire, a hunger for dreams and the road and getting out of town. Not just want, delicious as that is, but need.
(A siren picks up a hitchhiker on the road side, except, well- any liar can tell you that there's always more than meets the eye.)

What if Crystal was secretely a genius ? She's good at reading people, in any case, and she realized Edwin would probably enjoy indulging in his control issues... by playing God on the Sims.
Edwin keeps pushing the Cat King away, despite them being friends now. Despite Thomas constantly being around, being part of the Agency, trying to win him over with his charming personality. But he doesn't need to be won over. He's already been. Only it's easier having their Sims have a relationship than being in an actual relationship. So that's what he does. He makes Sim Cat King and Sim Edwin kiss. A lot. Because he's not doing the kissing himself, but some kissing needs to happen if he wants to stay soudn of mind.
Mods are involved. Sex mods are involved. But it's fine. It's research. It's not an issue. Noone will ever know.

It’s not a usual thing, for a cat to get caught in a net.
As a matter of fact, it’s kind of humiliating, to be stuck in cat form and captured in the sort of way that only prey animals are usually captured. To be pinned down, imprisoned as a fucking bird or a fish might be- it’s a fucking embarrassment.
But the net is iron- not poisonous to cats as it is to ghosts, but still, a cut-off to magic of a more…fae origin. (There’s a reason why the Cat King is set up in a cannery that has been stripped of its more iron and steel elements, after all.)
And thus, the Cat King is stuck here, and that shouldn’t be a problem, except for the fact that there is something else in this net than iron. Something that is, actually, draining the life from him.
And it burns.
(The Cat King gets stuck in a net, but it's no ordinary net- and if he isn't rescued soon, he might lose every life he has.)

As his thirtieth birthday approaches, one of them (Celebrity Manager, Esther Finch) decides to take matters into her own hands and gets him a Companion.
Wouldn't it be funny if she changed all of his settings to conflict with Thomas' personality? She certainly thinks so.
When Thomas is gifted Edwin on his birthday, he is confronted with two things: 1) Clearly, none of his ex-partners ever actually loved him if this was how it was supposed to be, and 2) He might need better friends.

He had thought that he knew what he was getting himself into when he had taken Edwin aside to dole out his punishment and had offered him freedom through pleasure instead. When he had been refused, he had given him something that matched his transgression; a leash for a leash and one tedious task for another, one that would force him to view the cats individually and recognise their differences.
How naïve he had been to assume that he could ever fathom someone like Edwin. He was made up of so many layers and intricacies that the Cat King was certain that he could spend the rest of his nine lifetimes peeling them back and exploring every inch of them, only to find that he was barely half way.

It was something about the smell of wood smoke and electricity, like the air right before a lightning storm. Charged, dangerous; so hot that when it hit you, it was cold for an instant before the burning began. It was something poised and measured, controlled, something begging to throw all of that to the wind so that it could be wild and unrestrained.
