oh. my. GOD. holy shit. i have read a couple fics before where the winter soldier tries to do anything steve wants because he thinks he's his handler, but this was so unique in the way that bucky was so meticulous in getting exactly what steve wanted that it was absolutely impossible to discern. i had been reading his whole thought process as the soldier, and yet whenever he spoke it was so perfectly BUCKY that i felt like i was falling for it just as much as steve was, even fully aware! it was freaky.
this is definitely the best fic of its kind / this trope i read, it's absolutely incredible and it left me shaken inside because bucky's act was so convincing it felt like reading an unreliable narrator even when he wasn’t, i just couldn't help but seeing the real bucky in his words and actions no matter what, and /steve has no idea/ omg he for sure wouldn't be able to. he's just thinking the real bucky is there and getting better. holy shit. -
