On the way, he passes by the living room, hesitating when he sees an unfamiliar box on the coffee table. He pads over, curiosity piqued, to find that it’s full of old photos.
He vaguely remembers a box like this in one, tucked away in a closet at his parents house. Full of photos of him and his brothers’ childhoods. Landmark events like birthdays and anniversaries captured on his parents' old camera. Back when his parents would give them disposable film cameras every once in a blue moon to entertain themselves, having to get them developed at the 1 Hour Photo a town over, back before they all begged for the new generation of iPods (with cameras!) in middle school.
The photos in this box have the same familiar grain, that specific quality that is so hard to replicate with an iPhone camera, regardless of how hard Dennis’s college friends would try for their artsy Instagram posts. But these aren’t childhood photos. Jack and Robby look like they’re at least college-aged in these, maybe older. Jack must have been feeling sentimental yesterday when Dennis and Robby were at work.

“Their whole thing?”
“Yeah. Didn’t you see them before Abbot left this morning? Bickering like a married couple.” She typed out another few phrases, then hit the enter key with a flourish. “Why, you aiming for the Robby-Abbot coven?”
Dennis paused for a beat. He didn’t know either of them, not really. If he was turned, he would prefer it be later down the road. “Are you a vampire?”
Santos didn’t reply, and he looked up at her warily. She wiggled her eyebrows at him. “Wouldn’t you like to know?”

A lot of workplaces saw a vampire feeding from a coworker similar to people dating. Therefore, similar regulations. Nothing really enforced on a federal or state level. In the PTMC, those regulations weren’t common. Then again, in the whole hospital, Dennis was one of two vampires. And the other had a blood letter. Dennis just had weird ass dive bars.

He just let another patient die, this time a 27 year old firefighter, someone who saved people every single day. He took them away from the world with his incompetence.
Robby had tried telling him that it wasn't his fault, the patient hadn't responded at all to any of the live-saving procedures they attempted.
But Dennis didn't see it that way. Not at all. He knew it was his fault, he was going to be the reason that a fire next week wouldn't have enough firefighters to save the whole family. He was going to be the reason that a child has to grow up without their parents-
And oh. That's a funny thought.
