Summary
Viktor and Jayce didn’t often have arguments. They were both adults, capable of taking responsibility for their mistakes and able to have level-headed, rational discussions until they solved any disagreements they may be having.
But after months of increasing pressure and stress, little sleep, constant hovering and hounding from the council, and working in cramped conditions, it was only a matter of time before one of them was going to be pushed over the edge.
Viktor just didn’t think it was going to be him.

“And what’s that supposed to mean, genius?” Jayce replies, playing it dumb. Just as he can pretend he’s had a few drinks, so too can Viktor pretend that Jayce isn't a terrible liar.
“It means that I love you, Councillor,” Viktor replies, and it’s so sweet and genuine that Jayce has to play it back in his mind to be sure it wasn’t the alcohol.

Wide eyed and shaken, Jayce takes up Viktor's hand with his own clammy paw.

The good news? Jayce Talis has finally been accepted onto Piltover Academy's Equestrian Team.

It wasn’t good for him to let himself be the beast that stirred inside him— that’s what he’s always thought. He had never truly let himself freely explore the animal side to him before, and Viktor had the makings to completely rewire his brain and bring forth the very monster he’d thought he conquered.

Jayce, the Golden Boy of Piltover, seems to find it easy to be the public face of the work. Viktor doesn’t mind it, time and time again. His place is in the lab and in the shadows, as he tells himself, as he writes in his journal every night.
But resentment begins to grow as they naturally slip into these roles, refusing to communicate anything other than the work. And something underneath threatens to bubble to the surface as Viktor works to hide whatever feelings he has about his new partner.
