Eu, por outro lado, passava despercebido. Cheguei com uma mala só, nervoso com o uniforme engomado demais, agradecido pela bolsa que me trouxe ali, mas ciente de que nunca faria parte de verdade. Era fácil perceber: na forma como desviavam o olhar, como o silêncio se estendia quando eu passava.
Mas Jay me viu.
Não da forma superficial com que se nota alguém. Ele me olhou como quem encontra algo interessante. Como quem vê uma oportunidade. Ou um espelho. Quando ele me convidou para passar o verão em sua casa, hesitei. Aquela mansão cercada de vidro e jardins infinitos não era para alguém como eu.
