Ch 2 commets ike to think that 50% of the reason that Jiang Cheng always looks so angry and constipated at Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji together in the second half of the show is because he’s fuming that Lan Wangji is banging his brother without him even being able to give Lan Wangji the shovel talk because Lan Wangji doesn’t acknowledge Jiang Cheng's existence.

Wei Wuxian frowns this time, turning around to go where the other disciples train. "Young Master Wei!" Lan Xichen says a little louder than usual. "Isn't there anyone else closer that you could ask?"
"Who? Lan Zhan? I already know he won't accept."
"Ask him." Lan Xichen says threatening. Even if he still smiles, Jiang Cheng could see the dangerous aura returning. He resisted the urge to take a few steps back.
"But -"
"Ask. Him. Young Master Wei."
Wei Wuxian widens his eyes a little and hurries towards Lan Wangji. "Lan Zhan, Lan Wangji, HanGuang-Jun, Second Master Lan will you marry me, please?" He asks with fear under the intense gaze.
"Yes." Came the answer that shocks both Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng.
"Wei Ying, my letter was addressed to my son."
Jiang Cheng chokes on air near Lan Xichen who pats him silently on the back. Not thinking about what he was doing, Jiang Cheng grabs Lan Xichen's robes and shouts in his face. "Marry me or I swear it's the last thing you won't do!"
The room is silent. Madam Yu blinks unimpressed, as if she didn't processed what her son just said while both Jiang FengMian and Jiang Yanli stares with their mouth slightly open behind their sleeves.

When Jiang Cheng receives hundreds of complaints about the Yiling Patriarch and the fact that he doesn't belong in the Lan Sect, what else should he do but send an invitation for Wei Wuxian to re-join the Jiang sect with his husband.
When Wei Wuxian is invited to re-join the Jiang sect, surely he can be forgiven for neglecting to explain the significance behind the silver bells they received, after all, he's so happy he can't stop crying.
When Lan Zhan receives a silver bell in the post, surely he can be forgiven for not remembering all his lessons on the customs of the other sects, after all, surely it can't be that important.

Summary
In an effort to get his council to stop forcing the marriage issue on him, Jiang Cheng decides to scare them into submission by marching into Cloud Recesses and proposing to the First Jade of Lan himself. It's a brilliant plan really and there's no way Lan Xichen will do more than laugh at the joke. The council will shut up, Jiang Cheng's marriage annoyances will stop, Jin Ling will get to enjoy some snow, and everything will go back to normal.
So to say he's unprepared for Lan Xichen actually accepting his hand in marriage is a bit of an understatement.

And if he knows you and your brother saved me, Shijie and Jiang Cheng, he wouldn’t let you be harmed. Moreover...the Dafan Wens never played a hand in the war. He should know this too.”

We do need an alliance bond...I half expected Jin Guangyao to ask you to join the Venerated Triad after the Sunshot Campaign, but I guess it didn’t happen.” Now it’s Wei Wuxian’s turn to be surprised.

A-Niang, I know you never wanted me or A-jie to call Wei Wuxian our brother, but we’ve never considered him as a servant like you wanted us to. We always made our own choice when considering what Wei Wuxian meant to us. You may not know it, but Wei Wuxian sacrificed more than you could ever know for this sect and...me.
