Summary
The stars were burning in the night sky. The hallways were dark, only lit by the pale emergency lighting above the doorframes. They tinted the hard wood floor and walls green, leaving the rest of the corridor in black shadows. The staircase beyond the glass door across the hallway, on the contrary, was floodlit and drenched in yellow. The harsh light there hurt the eyes of the late passers-by, the single young man who made his way upstairs was squinting against the lamps suspended from the ceiling. He yawned and padded further upstairs, passing one hallway after another, setting one foot in front of the other.
Grantaire makes a late night discovery that tips his world upside down as he enters unknown territory.

Summary
Les Amis find themselves in a strange place that resembles an island, where they are confined inside and around a building and its surroundings. People wearing strange clothes present them with the rules they have to follow, with the promise of unpleasant consequences if they do not. Out of fear and curiosity, the puzzled young men obey. During the days and whatever time of the day, Les Amis are told to gather outside of any door their captors dictate, unsure if it ever is the same door. And all they remember at the end of the day is entering the room, and then waking up to bright lights upon them, confined to a chair, after which their captors release them. Gavroche is locked away, the captors take an interest in Courfeyrac, not releasing him after they’re done with him in those rooms, instead carrying him away in an inaccessible room. Enjolras’ frustration grows stronger, he feels responsible for everything he and his friends are going through, and takes it upon himself to rescue them all and escape. Where are they? What is this place? Who’s behind this all? And what does a 20-year-old unsolved murder case have to do with that and them all?

[UPDATED after 9 years]
In 19th-century New York City, Crow familiar Grantaire is without a witch at the Arcane Regulation Commission (A.R.C). And he's satisfied with his unattached lifestyle -- except that his prominent family and his superiors think he's going to become a liability, so they saddle him with a new witch partner, the brilliant, strict, and highly ambitious Enjolras.
What was meant to be a temporary partnership turns into something more when Grantaire and Enjolras realize they are meant for each other - as witch and familiar, that is.
Grantaire struggles with the strange feelings stirring inside him, just as a series of attacks on unbound familiars force Grantaire and Enjolras to head a manhunt for a deranged witch who might be after Grantaire.

this is my first fic! it's been super fun to write, and it's quite wacky and random, hopefully it'll be super fun to read too. it's a les mis modern high school au and there are literally thirteen main characters... so yeah. ships aren't the main part of it, but yknow I do love the ships! also, the extent to which all of the ships listed above will, like, actually happen will probably vary. and Neopets (awesome online games-and-stuff website) is slightly involved but if you know nothing about Neopets it'll probably be fine.
title is from the AJR song The Good Part, doesn't super specifically relate to the fic but I just love the vibe lmao
edit: title used to be "can we skip to the good part?" as mentioned above but I changed it to "i think we're still turning out", which is basically a lyric from the AJR song Turning Out except it's originally "i think i'm still turning out", cus i thought it fit better this way (and that this title makes a lot more sense with the fic than that lyric did)
