Summary
After WCKD discovered Thomas was Super Immune and could permanently cure the Flare in others, he became their one and only test subject. While the other Immunes escaped to the Safe Haven thanks to the Right Arm, Newt stayed in the Last City with Thomas in order to support him as he underwent testing by WCKD — living with him in his suite, taking care of him when he was injured, and quietly pining for him when he was well. Over time the testing Thomas was subjected to became more and more extreme, and Newt began to fear that one day WCKD would go too far. When Newt made a plan to get Thomas out of the situation, it set off a chain of events including the unlocking of incredible abilities that Thomas didn’t even know he had.

Now living in the Scorch— having made some more friends along the way— they try to make the most of every day and meet a boy named Thomas. When they learn of a supposed Safe Haven they go on a mission to find the people who are going there and learn a lot along the way.

Everything is mostly the same, except the kids never made it to the Maze; the world is still ending and WCKD is still terrible. A story I thought about writing before I wrote "at this moment (you mean everything)". Some similarities but a lot of changes too

Summary
Newt and Minho were considered slaves, chattel, like countless other betas and omegas. Imprisoned and prepared for slavery within the walls of WCKD, the premiere slave trading corporation in the country. The Right Arm is an illegal organization, seeking to put an end to beta and omega slavery.
For unsold chattel like Minho and Newt, to be bought is a nightmare. To stay in WCKD and be ignored, abused and neglected— slightly less of a nightmare. Bearable in comparison. But to Thomas, a top Right Arm agent and one of the organization's finest and youngest, he cannot help but want to pull innocent victims of WCKD out of hell.
While on a mission with Vince to a WCKD facility, intent on staking out the corporation's weaknesses, Thomas' eyes stall on the pair. He decides that if he cannot bring them to the Right Arm's sanctuary, what good is their goal anyway? And so with a few blunt words and a stack of cash, Newt and Minho are purchased, and brought to a new life.

The door opened and a boy walked in wearing a white lab coat stitched with the WCKD logo. He looked around Newt's age, probably younger. The boy paused for a moment, and regarded him with an eiree silence. Newt hated WCKD, but as he looked into the boys whiskey gold eyes, he decided that people could be evil AND cute.
"Hi. Subject A5-"
"My name's Newt."
The boy watched him curiously. "Newt," he said, letting the words roll of his tongue. "Nice to meet you. I'm Thomas."
