It was hard not to preen when Emmrich praised his moves in a fight, or to lean in when Emmrich got onto a topic he liked. Something about him radiated a familiar warmth, and Grier found himself seeking out that focus more and more.

    He’d done something dangerously close to flirting, a couple times. Without realizing it, if he was honest. Compliments worded a bit more suggestively than he’d intended them to be. He was used to saying what he meant without a thought, but now he found himself considering his words, lest he admit such an embarrassing craving for praise.

    As Vitt thought about Minrathous, they found themselves standing in front of Neve’s rooms. For someone who barely slept, perhaps having the room encased by windows was a bad idea. Without thinking, they walked to Neve’s door, hand pressed against it and trying to see if she was finally asleep. Vitt truly didn’t want to disturb her.

    Instead, Vitt heard a quiet gasp, a low groan and their ears perked up instantly. A light blush coated their cheeks. They must be mishearing, right? There was no real cause to assume that the soft moans Vitt was hearing was for anything other than… maybe pain? Maybe a bad dream? Yet that didn’t explain when Vitt heard their name, almost too quiet to hear but edged with a keen need that there was no use denying it now.

A powerless pampered almost princeling is no-one and nothing, marked by a meaningless name and a life with even less meaning. He took his own side when he crafted his ascent to Fifth Talon. If a father is nothing, means nothing - why should a mentor be more? He took his own side with Andarateia. He doesn’t have the inclination to compete with another man.
    It stands to reason then, that he accidentally inhaled some of the snuff earlier. Or maybe the air truly is sick here, because something light and sharp and hideous bubbles from his gut into his chest. Slinking into the shadows on a shitty balustrade in Minrathous, Viago de Riva finds himself siding with someone else.

    Now, between saving the world, upholding the de Riva name, not staring too long at Lucanis mid-fight, and juggling who they were with the Crows against who they’re trying to be now… Rook just needs a second. Any second.

    Preferably one where no one’s bleeding.
