“Was he really that bad?” he found himself asking, and Zelda stilled, turning to look down at him with a questioning gaze.
“He?”
“The King,” he clarified, and Zelda’s eyebrows furrowed. “We’ve… heard a little about him, and you’re the only one who really remembers enough to give any real answers.”
Zelda flinched, and Four made note of the fact that Wild’s amnesia seemed to be a bit of a sore spot for her. “I…”
The princess seemed to be at a loss for words. Her grip on the ancient core loosened, and Four leaned forward to take it from her hands before it could fall to the floor.
“My father was…” Zelda paused, her eyes glittering. “It would probably be best to say goal-oriented.” Her voice was precariously soft, lest she thought she would shatter if she spoke any louder. “He was worried as the Calamity loomed, and so he pushed us to fulfill our destinies.”
Her eyebrows knitted together, and Four shuffled closer in an attempt to offer some semblance of comfort. Cherry-tinted worry hovered in the back of his mind.
