Frodo grasped Pippin's wrist, bracketed by Sam and Merry. Moving as one, the four bounded together to form a pack of rabbits, slipping to and fro between the building battle. Merry, instinctively, pelted a large rock at a Warg's eye with a cry as it came too close — it reared its ugly head, falling in line for Aragorn's Andrúil to pierce it through.
'Good aim,' he panted, carding the hair back from his eyes, 'We shall make you a slingshot yet.'
'A bow may suit him!' Came Legolas' bird-song call from above. His shadow spun a swift curvet against the coming dark, silver hair gleaming with the last vestiges of marigold skies. 'Alas, we could bear another archer!'
'You would want that, wouldn't you?' Gimli shouted.

NO LONGER ON HIATUS; CH16 OUT SOON
In which the Fellowship has a much bigger quest to worry about. The group has broken up, but one prison break, one magic ritual, and several prophecies later, they're off to destroy the Ring of Melkor and break the siege of Minas Tirith. The problem is, they're not exactly what the city was hoping for.
Pippin is presently reconsidering his life choices. Being kidnapped by the Uruk-hai, for example, was not part of the plan. Neither was becoming the vahka 'en heledh and trying not to dial Melkor every other minute. And falling in love with the princess of Long Cleeve may have been the biggest deviation of all. But Pippin rarely has a plan to deviate from, so it must be fate.
Aragorn is trying not to fall apart. He's pretty sure he's going to be the worst king ever, and not just because of the prophecies that say he'll likely bring about the fall of Middle-earth. Oh, and he has to destroy another all-powerful ring with a couple of hobbits, one of whom has a direct hotline to Mordor. What could possibly go wrong?
AU where Merry and Pippin don't escape from the Orcs, Diamond comes into the story a bit early...and Boromir doesn't stay dead for long.

"'Everyone thinks of me a fool,' he called to his older cousin. 'If this is what makes it true… then so be it.' Pippin nodded, a childish optimism blooming warm in his chest. Maybe it was blind determination, maybe it was idiocracy. It didn’t matter anymore. Pippin was afraid of orcs. But he didn’t feel afraid now. The orc could beat him, hurt him, kill him even. It didn’t matter. All that mattered to Pippin was that three hobbits made it home to the shire. Pippin thought of Gandalf’s story of a path beneath a far sunset. Taking the path to protect his cousin didn’t sound so bad. "
Summary: During the final battle at the black gates, Pippin Took finds his courage in order to protect his older cousin. But it comes at a price. The worrying question is, will this injury be enough to permanently separate Merry and Pippin?
