Summary
Given an opportunity Ozai sends Zuko to the Northern Watertribe as a gift of goodwill so that they would remain neutral. He expects zuko would remain imprisoned or die from execution or exposure. Unexpectedly the North’s royal family takes him in, raising him as Yue’s brother. It isn’t until years later that the North reconsiders their neutrality when the Avatars group arrive. Zuko is faced with the opportunity to return home or remain loyal to his newfound family.
Mostly focused on Zuko and Yue’s relationship and Northern Water Tribe Culture and world building. Zukka is introduced in later chapters. Some Yukka although it is one sided.

The sun casts long and slender shadows over the street and the smoke cloud from Zuko’s lips floats like a cloud before vanishing in the summer air. Zuko stares at where the cloud had just been and sighs. If he manages to get to Uncle at some point tonight, he’ll be disappointed to smell the cigarette smoke on his clothes and breath. Katara didn’t notice the bandages over Zuko’s face until he walked into mixed-year homeroom. She stops talking to Jiang for a second and watches as his good eye goes wide with...something...when everyone turns and stares at him. For a second, it looks like he might cry. Then he scowls and basically stomps to a desk in the back. She follows him with her eyes and then he pulls his hood over his head. Ozai loves his wife. He loves his son. He loves his daughter. He tolerates his brother, and he does care for his nation, more than the nobles and generals, anyway. But he does not love his father Azulon.
The old man did more harm than good these days, and he had to be stopped. Ozai stayed quiet on so many matters. He never spoke out against Azulon when the man ignored and diminished Lu-Ten's sacrifice in Ba Sing Se. Ozai said nothing when Azulon revoked Iroh's birth-right for not destroying Ba Sing Se or conquering it in the name of the Fire Lord after Lu-Ten died. Ozai remained dead-silent when Azulon burned and abused him since childhood. Even Mother never learned about that part.
But he would not stay silent as his father tried to burn and banish Ozai's only son. Zuko had only been supporting his nation's youngest recruits. Children shouldn't fight wars. Apparently Azulon disagreed. And now, Ozai would have to kill him, because if he didn't, that old monster would kill Zuko and maybe even Azula. And that was UNACCEPTABLE.
