Summary
Arthur Pendragon isn't the princess raised by Uther Pendragon, but maidservant to the most powerful sorceress in the world.
Merlin isn't a maidservant to a prat princess raised to despise magic, but a princess with a maidservant who despises her own existence second only to her hatred of the man that forced it.
Camelot spent only five years with magic banned under penalty of death. Balinor leading a force of both sorcerers and non-sorcerers managed to dethrone Uther Pendragon two years after his daughter's birth. Now he leads Camelot as Regent Lord alongside his wife, Hunith proclaimed Queen of Camelot.
But twenty years have passed since the first prophecies of The Once and Future King have been revealed. And the Prophecy is now publicly known.
Now Merlin must do everything in her power (alongside her closest friends, Morgana, Morgause, Gwen, Lancelot, Gwaine, and Aithusa her dragon) to get her not so secret lover, Arthur Pendragon ready to be King.

Merlin's heart lurches and before he can fully process the moment, Arthur pulls him into a fierce hug — the strength of which catches him off guard. Then, just as suddenly, Arthur pulls away and, without another word, steps into the castle, leaving Merlin alone on the castle steps.
He sighs as he watches Arthur disappear into the depths of the castle, knowing only one thing for certain: it is going to be a long week.

(Merlin is a random name he came up with) When learning about the prophecy from Kilgharrah, he decides it is his duty to leave and go to Camelot to fulfill said prophecy. This however means Merlin has to leave behind many people he loves. Merlin finds that love expands elsewhere soon after arriving in Camelot.

With slow movements, cautious of the guards appointed outside his door, the dark-haired crown prince stood from his desk, carefully rolling the letter in his hands as he rose. He grabbed a ribbon from the corner of his desk, and tied it around the rolled parchment. Then, assuring its tightness was sufficient, he walked to the curtained window, socked feet quiet on the hard floor.
A cough from outside his chamber’s doors had Merlin freezing in his tracks as he raised a hand to open his curtains. Shuffling from the guards had him holding his breath, anxious anticipation suffocating him.
