Summary

Emmrich (early 50’s) is a successful doctor, fresh out of an amicable divorce (Johanna was always more of a friend than wife) looking to expand his family through surrogacy to give his young son Manfred (4) a playmate.
In an internal fuck-up of eye-watering lawsuit proportions Jane-the-Virgin-style, Evie ends up not only donating her eggs but also being artificially inseminated by Emmrich’s sample.
All I can imagine, once they both get past the shock and horror, is Emmrich being the doting, supportive partner Evie never asked for but secretly longed for. Like he keeps calling/texting her asking if she needs anything, if she is taking the vitamins he had delivered to her house, and how she’s feeling.

“Are… you all pregnant?” he gasped, his eyes lingering over each of the four women in turn.
Neve was the one to break the stunned silence. She raised an eyebrow as she delicately nibbled at a fried fish head, in search of the prized cheeks.
“Beg pardon?”
Lucanis took a deep, steadying breath and closed his eyes for a moment, his hand settling over his stomach like he might be sick once he opened them again.
“Forgive me. I am fresh from a year-long imprisonment. I may be lacking… tact.” He opened his eyes at long last.
“But what the fuck is this?” he asked, his voice rising in incredulity as he waved an agitated hand towards their feast. His gaze lingered on Harding. She took another defiant bite of cheese off her dagger.
“Dinner?” Rook offered, as she finished another pickle, keeping her tone intentionally innocent.---
Lucanis joins the team and is promptly horrified by the living conditions. Rook uses the opportunity to learn more about her new team from a fresh perspective, and more about Lucanis himself.
