Stede is Maurice but also kinda Clive in terms of life circumstances (Clive is not in this at all so it's fine). Izzy is the gamekeeper. That's all you need to know.
I think you can read this fine if you don't know Maurice, but I do highly recommend it (both the book and the film).

Risley had plenty of admirers, and he was of the firm belief that variety was the spice of life.
The variety he was hunting for now was, of course, dear Maurice. That Clive was so hopelessly and sadly in love with him made Mauriceall the more appetising. He, of course, didn't know at all that Risley had already picked him out as a future lover, let alone that he did love men.
Thus, in true Cambridge fashion, Risley saw himself as an educator, and now it was his task to introduce Maurice, this handsome, broad fellow to the secret ways of pleasure only known to man.
Maurice, of course, had completely fucked him over.Or: Risley, Cambridge University's resident manwhore, takes it on him to give Maurice the best first time.

Maurice ponders how life could of been different and mourns the years of love lost due to the world’s ignorance.
