As Yukari had somehow suspected, it’s Yuki who stepped out, but he hasn’t gone far. He’s standing on the steps with his jacket bundled, tugging a glove over one hand. When Yukari joins him, Yuki turns to face her, eyes widened with uncharacteristic surprise.
Then they soften, and Yukari swallows so she won’t let on how that makes her feel, the inexplicable weight in her chest. She smiles instead, and tries to make it a little incredulous, pushing the front door shut with one foot so she won’t let any of the cold winter air into the dorms. It’s early, but the sky is starting to take on that pre-dawn desaturated blue colour. It washes Yuki out somewhat, gives his vibrant hair and eyes a more faded tint. Everything looks a little bit off at this hour.
“Headed somewhere?” Yukari asks. She wraps her sweater tighter around her own body and shivers. It really is bitingly cold, not even late enough for there to be the sunlight to cut through some of that chill. Yuki nods, and his attention returns to his glove.
