Summary
Once, there was a young man by the name of Sokka. He was full of curiosity and aimed to learn as much as he could, exploring the lands of the world and documenting as much knowledge of them as he could.
On one such expedition, he happened upon a village making claims of the more mystical variety. As he ate a nice meal at the local tavern, he was told grand tales by the barkeep and the locals. The sentinel of the waters, the keeper of truths, the guide of heroes. Supposedly, in the forest nearby was a grand lake, where lived a nymph.

There's a new vigilante roaming the streets of Japan, someone who civilians started to call, The Blue Spirit. At first, the vigilante was thought to only work in Musutafu, but then sightings were reported throughout all of Japan. Muggings, assault, and kidnappings were the main issues The Blue Spirit dealt with frequently enough that the Underground Heroes had learned to appreciate The Blue Spirit's aid. Quite a few of them felt bad about being required to try and arrest the vigilante.
What they don't know is, The Blue Spirit is a child displaced by both space and time, blessed by the Spirits of his homeworld. -

After nearly a hundred years of war, these spirits decided to end it. They possessed the bodies of two children, unable to remember their heritage, or their love, but destined to be together in all lives. Coincidentally, these two happen to be on opposite sides of the war.

Some days, when the scent of dew is heavy in the air and Agni’s rays lend an iridescent quality to the colors of the sky and the grass, Sokka finds himself in the company of the Sun Spirit.
“You are sad today,” the Sun Spirit observes.
“Yeah.” Sokka exhales.
“You are… missing something?”
“SomeONE,” Sokka corrects. “A… long-lost friend.” The Sun Spirit frowns a little, lips that had once been capable of the most endearingly awkward smile pulling down. Sokka looks at the soft waves of dark hair, more lustrous than they’ve ever been in the Spirit’s actual lifetime, and the way it curls over once-familiar golden eyes. He feels his heart hollow a little more.
Sokka had thought he and Zuko would have had more time together.

Eventually whispers of a benevolent spirit arises.

Prince Zuko spends his mornings sitting by the turtleducks, feeding them pieces of bread and talking in a low voice. He plays pai sho with the courtesans, and performs mini-concerts with the tsungi horn for the royal guard, and takes servants' children to the market square to buy fire flakes and molten pear drops from the street vendors.
And if Azula closes her eyes, she can pretend that everything’s fine.
It does not change the fact that Zuko's going to die.
(AU where Zuko was blessed by Agni and Ozai plans to sacrifice him on the day of the eclipse.)
