Marco was not sure what he had expected when he had started scouting the North Blue for just the hint of a way to treat Pops' illness better. A lucky break perhaps, hoping to find the Ope Ope no Mi fruit that Haruta swore up and down had been spotted some two years back in that Blue.
Or perhaps a clue who had the fruit now.
He did not actually expect to find the current user of the Ope Ope no Mi - something that would have flown under his radar completely if he hadn't seen the child - because that was still a child - reattaching a floating limb. Golden eyes. Black hair. Way too short for his age - stunted health, probably due to malnourishment or sickness or both, Marco noted clinically. A tiny polar bear mink hiding behind him - Marco almost squeaked because what? And a rusted blade pointed at Marco's neck as soon as the First Division Commander made his presence known to the children.
Needless to say, Trafalgar Law was not what the Phoenix expected. But perhaps he was exactly what Pops needed.
Because Calypso help him, that was a new sibling in the making and he was adorable. Marco did his best to ignore the Phoenix crooning at the back of his mind. Chicklet. Mine.

“Marco could be avoiding it since Luffy is your little brother.” Haruta chimed in. “You two are close, it could be he just doesn’t want to upset you by showing any interest.”
“He’s showing interest. A lot of interest.” Ace deadpanned. “Lulu is too and yet somehow both are missing it entirely.”
At that they all looked over to see Marco visibly appreciating the sheer amount of skin Luffy had on display with his pirate costume when the younger man was distracted by something one of his friends said. As per usual Marco looked away just before Luffy could turn his attention back to the conversation they’d been having before the distraction.
Rakuyo sat up abruptly, eyes wide and a smile on his face. “What if we help them figure their shit out? Like, we set them up on dates?”
“Oh, and just what kind of dates are you thinking?” Izou hummed, leaning forward in interest.
“Hell, I don’t know!” Rakuyo blurted, scrambling for something, anything, now that he was put on the spot. “We could drag ‘em ice skating?”

A laugh left Luffy at that only it wasn't the light carefree one Marco was so used to no this one was dark and sent fire racing through his veins when Luffy just smirked at him. He’d thought the man would maybe prepare him a bit more or enter him slowly to account for the fact that even with the long time Luffy had spent stretching him he was thick enough that Marco would surely be feeling every inch. He’d zoned out too much admiring the view in front of him, Marco thought as another yelp left him when Luffy slipped one arm under him and hefted him into the air.
He scrambled to hold on, legs wrapping tightly around Luffy’s hips as his nails raked down Luffy’s spine and back, digging into his shoulders as Marco settled. Everything within Marco shuddered in pleasure as he realised the strength Luffy had, and how easily it was for his Sunshine to manhandle him. A moan escaped as he let more of his weight settle, eyes widening slightly at the smirk that pulled at Luffy’s lips as his hands slowly let go of his thighs.

Marco is an omega past his prime, he never took a mate and doesn't think that he needs one either. Most of the Alphas that had approached him weren't all that cortgeous about it either. He keeps his flames from healing him and eventually doesn't get heats anymore. Until Ace arrives on board and they hit it off, one night not that long after Ace makes commander Marco wakes up to the start of a heat, panicking which sends Ace running to come and check up on him. The omega in him recognizing the potential mate and Ace keeping himself in check until Marco can consent to whatever is going to happen. In the end, Marco is more than happy he waited, shocked and blown away by how a good mate behaves and takes care of him.
