After the sacrifice, Aspen begins to question the teachings of his own house, as his faith begins to falter, its rekindled by the sudden disappearance of his brother.

John was a human thrall infected with an illithid tadpole. Due to a rare case of partialism, John and the tadpole are now Lubuzol, a young mind flayer who doesn't fit in amongst the other illithids of the colony. It turns out it's hard to be a mind flayer when you have a human code of ethics. Who would've thought?
(Lubuzol recounts their life from ceremorphosis, to befriending their first and only thrall, to the banishment that led to meeting Vers the eladrin at a tavern in Vaelan, Durpar.)

United by convenience and circumstance, Vers is joined by Riki the kenku (bard), Lubuzol the mind flayer (cleric), and Tathyl the drow (ranger/sorcerer).

The two seemingly had little in common, until fate intervened and brought them together in the ill-fated days leading up to their capture by an Illithid Vessel. Despite their differences and the uncertain future ahead of them, they find themselves inexplicably drawn to one another. Whether this connection will be for better or worse, only time will tell.
