Slowly the story progresses into the both of them gaining feelings for each other but refusing to confront them; going through several events in history together. Then through time they start to love each other before losing all of that, going back to enemies over and over to lovers.

Alagadda doesn't have rules, it has roles, and the only sin in Alagadda is breaking character. Most of the citizens are content in the endless carnival, but a city of decadence and hedonism eventually becomes torture if one's only permitted trait is sadness.
In some ways, SCP-035 prefers to be exiled. However, one of its fellow Lords believes that exiling the Wearer of the Anguished Mask only made things worse and that it should be brought back to sit on the Black Throne again.
